Working with children in pediatrics, helping to feed continuing care patients, making beds and helping,m the gift shop, the volunteers learn to grow and develop, said Yvonne Kitchen. She is the liaison officer with the junior volunteers and hospital auxiliary. Mrs. Kitchen spoke to the assembled volunteers, their parents, members of the hospital board and members of the hospital auxiliary. She thanked the girls for their many hours of commitment. Mary Margaret Nash, a former volunteer and now an employee at the Seaforth Hospital, told the girls that volunteering is helpful to those who choose nursing as a career. When Mrs. Nash began as a volunteer in 1972, the volunteers were called candy stripers because of their red and white striped uniforms. She graduated as an RNA from the Wingham Hospital. She said the hospital strives to take care of those who say, 'I'm sick; I'm your patient; take care of me," Recipient of the Outstanding Service Pin was Sandra Lee who has worked as a volunteer for six years. The pin was presented by Frances Teatero and Yvonne Kitchen. Recipient of a 300 hour pin was Ann McClure and winners of 200 hour pins were Lisa Harvey and Lysa Barry. Sadly the Editor's Note: As a recent patient at Seaforth Community Hospital, Ed Daly wrote his first children's story called The Little White Moth. BY EDMiJND DALY It was such a beautiful morning the little White Moth was out enjoying the day, the, sun and the beauty of the landscape. As it flew along, enjoying the scenery, it saw a bright spot amongst the trees. It came closer and saw a beautiful yellow leaf. Thoughts of fall and cold weather made the Tittle White Moth shiver a bit but then it 'looked around and saw only green leaves on all the other trees. As it drew nearer, it saw that it wasn't a •leaf at all but a big beautiful butterfly. It just couldn't resist the temptation and delicately lit on one of the butterfly's wings. "Whirls on my wings" a gruff voice came from below the little White Moth. "Don't you know I'm monarch of all I can see?" Hastily the little White Moth flew off to a nearby twig "You'll excuse me" said the White Moth "but you are so beautiful 1 lust couldn't help it." "May I sit on on this twig a moment '°Il ready", saida rea y", not knowing just what was utile Moth looked and its wings were white going to happen. It looked up and saw the again. Monarch's wings fluttering and down came 'Look 'what you' a done" cried the little a golden dust that covered -the White Moth White Moth. "'r can't share ty, beauty When the White Moth discovered what talking like that' said'the Monarch, "now was happening it exlaimed "now I'm as fly away and.don't bother me again." beautiful as you". "No, you're not, growled , 'With a downcast look White Moth flew off the Monarch" and to prove it, go to that' , thinking sadly. After a while White Moth nearby pond and wait till the wateris =tooth went back to the pond and took another look, and you'll see for yourself", Away flew the "I' ain .beautiful. White is even more little White Moth (Golden Moth?) over to the beautiful than golden. I am so happy." And pond and waited for the water to lie smooth, soothe little White Moth flew off happy with When it saw itself in the pond the little Moth the world again.
