No it is not a wedding, anniversary or birthday - it is Mothers Day. This is the one day when mother gets fussed over, pampered and absolutely overwhelmed with treats and posies and why not? Mothers are unique --most definitely one of a kind. In the workforce of today they have no title or high paid position but their qualifications would in many ways by far outrank many professional positions. Mothers are creators, for they bring new life into the world. They are nurses for they care for their children day and night through fevers, cold, teething and many illnesses, They are teachers for they instruct their children to walk and talk and teach them how to dress and look after themselves. They are leaders as they take their turn in the ranks of the brownies, cubs, and the P.T.A. They are doctors of love for they can heal the many scrapes, bumps and bruses with a kiss and a hug. They Are seamstresses for they must repair the tattered togs after a school yard scuffle and make cute frilly frocks for that special little girl to wear to church. They are the local taxi drivers as the gang needs a ride to the hockey practice, baseball game, skating or a birthday party. They are superb chefs and no wonder - anyone who can satisfy all those hollow bodies today has to be indispensible. When it comes to baking why no one makes cookies like niom; just ask the kids in the neighborhood. Today's moms have to- be magicians to keep up with the shortening and lengthening of trousers and hemlines as the fashions change as fast as the weather and the kids must be eating stretch pills the way they grow. Mothers are counsellors for they listen and give words of -wisdom and understand- ing to their offspring, and on occasion they may even take matters into their own hands when they dust off their youngster's trousers. They are the built-in hotel maid for they are left to pick up and clean up after everyone. No doubt by now you must be thinking mother sounds like the million, dollar machine. Well she sure is priceless, but she is by no means a machine. Mothers have feelings and fears and also need tender loving care. They are human and shed tears of joy and sorrow and need comforting. But when mother gets all her children raised and off on their own, her face is wrinkled with time, her voice is softened but in her offsprings' eyes she will always have the face of an angel, the voice of a songbird and the most important of all she has always hada heart of gold. The past week was busy with Education Week projects and one in particular was the Science Fair held on Thursday, Apr. 5 at St. Patrick's School. In viewing the works OMB disallows Hibbert recent manure bylaw "Obviously a victory" is how Ontario Federation of Agriculture president Harry Pelissero described the Ontario Municipal Board decision to disallow a liquid manure bylaw passed by Hibbert Township council earlier in the year. The bylaw, which was challenged by township resident Leo Kroonen, included several provisions for drop pipes, height and storage capacity for the tanks, all of which were challenged at the hearing. Discussing the decision Ron Christie of the Perth Federation of Agriculture said he was pleased with the results of the hearing. The federation was fighting for a good issue which has a broad appeal to our members," he said. Mr. Christie said the next step for Hibbert would be to put together a new bylaw. He thought ,there should be more consultation with the people affected by the bylaw. Reeve Ivan Norris said he had not received any official notification of the board's decision. ''We have a liquid manure bylaw as part of the township's comprehensive zoning bylaw. 1 haven't seen anything official yet but if they have thrown the thing out, we are back to square one," he said.
