Cabbage Patch kids and cabbage rolls at SPS
CABBAGE PATCH KID DAY AT SPS
On Wednesday, Apr. 18, 5R held Cabbage
Patch Kid Day at Seaforth Public School.
The following comments were made about
the different activities.
C.P.K. draw for Beautiful Aril, a blond
CPK. Everyone wanted April. She was
popular. We made 528.00 profit for the
Student's Council. The lucky winner was
Sarah Powell in grade one. Andrea Ribey
INTERVIEWS, INTERVIEWS,
INTERVIEWS
The interviews for CPK were very
successful. Diane, Lorianne and Melissa
worked very hard. We interviewed around
50-60 kids. We were happy that a lot of kids
showed up. After, my hand was tired from
writing all that time. It was a very good
turnout. Melissa Whitmore
SONG AND DANCE
Although most of the Grade Ones didn't
know the words, Tim Brown, Brian
Williamson, David Scarrow and Rodney
Smith soon fixed that. Song -dances like
"How Many Miles to Cabbage Patch Land"
and "Rig -a -jig jig" were used to start off'
5R's Cabbage Patch Day. Susanne Pursley
THE TREASURE HUNT
Sherry Miller and Sharon Shannon
organized this event. The - treasure hunt
started at 2:30. People came earlier and got
there before us. We hadn't even hidden the
prize, but it was fun. Sherry Miller
JOKE CONTEST
Brad Schroeder, Jonathan Wheatley and
Mark Smale waited for jokes outside 5R's.
door. We drew out the best joke. Mark
McDonald won and he had to say it over the
P.A. system. Mark Smale
PROBLEMS, PROBLEMS, PROBLEMS
We had a fun day. Most people donot like
math, but Greg Preszcator and Susanne
Pursley made up a sheet of C.P.K.
problems. Then everyone started to go right
at them. •There were none left. Lots of people
were trying to get them. Rodney Smith
CABBAGE ROLLS
AND VEGETABLE SOUP
Yuk, cabbage rolls. That's what 5R ate ,for
lunch on Wednesday. Most people thought
the meat inside was raw. 1 didn't like the
cabbage rolls, but some people did.
Greg Preszcator
•
1 thought the soup was delicious compared
to the cabbage rolls we made. Really the
soup was quite good; but I liked the crackers
and • the relish tray even better.
Renee Thompson
FASHION SHOW
Renee Thompson, Lisa Henderson, and
Sandra Mclnally organized a CPK fashion
show in the gym. Any child could take part,
either by dressing -up as a CPK, or just
holding a,favorite doll. The commentary, was
done by Sandra Mclnally.
Erika De Wolfe
Lisa Henderson
SKIPPING "
Sherri -Lynn Coleman and Tera Lyons
treated the kids at recess to a new CPK
skipping game. Sherrl.Lynn and Tara said
they had plenty of interested kids.
N. Riley
ENJOY DAT
Al in all the chlldren enjoyed the day,
right from the time of preparing the
vegetables for the soup, through mixing up
the hamburger for the cabbage rolls, and
finishing up with their evaluation. Each child
had a contract for the day. They chose the
activities they were interested in and they
were required to set up a plan and follow
that plan through.
Mrs. Smith fwld Rn.interestino sooting
game, using a list of words the children had
made up themselves.
A follow up discussion was held to talk
about the problems in organizing an event
like this. Some children felt more organiza-
tion was necessary for a successful event.
Other children really enjoyed working
with the grade one's and the kindergarten.
They said "It made me feel good." I
thoroughly enjoyed the day. Thanks to the
other classes for joining us.
Sincerely

Parents get advice
Parents are constantly exposed to advice -
some unsolicited - on how to raise their
children. Pediatricians give it and so do
relatives. friegqds, neighbors, magazine
writers and new paper columnists.
To help parents sort through this barrag
of often conflicting information. the Huron
County Health Unit will offer a series of 3
classes for parents, with preschool children
(aged one to five years). Through the use of
films, activities and discussion the class
series, called "Pleasures, Problems and
Preschoolers" will provide parents the
opportunity to share and receive information
on a variety of topics including development, -
safety, behavior problems, health • issues,
nutrition, discipline and sexuality.
Class content has been designed to help
parents develop a better understanding of the
changes and challenges that may occur as
their child matures from a toddling one year
old through to the more mature five-year-old
ready to begin school. The first class
`i?xamines the different stages of development
and offers information on safety precautions
and discipline approaches most effective at
the different stages of development.
Class two will investigate a variety of
concerns including behavior problems such
as lying, stealing. disobedience. arguing and
