ALAN McCALL 887.6677 There were 10 tables of euchre in play at the Walton WI hall on Tuesday evening. The following were winners: high lady, Dorothy Daer; low, Mary Robertson; high man, John Simpson; low, Florence Routzon, playing as a man; closest birthday, Jim McTaggart; anniversary, Esther Moffatt. Institute hostesses were Margaret Short - reed, Marion Godkin and Vera McDonald. There will be another euchre Apr. 24. Everyone is welcome. WALTON UNITS HOLD MEETINGS The theme was/Easter fort the Walton 1 Unit meeting in the church basement, Wednesday, Apr. 11. The devotions opened with Elva Wilbee giving the call to worship. Pianist was Doreen Hackwell. Elva read an article on Gethsemene . Phyllis Mitchell gave a reading,. Easter is a glorious time. Berva Watson read the scripture from Luke and John and Janie McEwing gave an Easter poem. Phyllis read an article, '`Hope is like a candle". Janie read Easter Morn followed by prayer. Marion Godkin gave a timely topic following with the Easter theme. Marion showed a film strip on the faith of Easter, "The Light". Members were divided into four groups and were to write comments of que ns on the different meanings that we:.. s..own in the film. A discussion followed. Margery Huether was pianist and Marion Godkin led in the singing of a hymn. Viola Kirkby presided. for the business opening with a poem. Minutes were read by Audrey Hackwell. A collection was received for the Bakeless Bake Sale. • Bale articles to be in by May 27. The garage sale is 'set for Saturday, June 9. Several offered to help clean the kitchen Monday morning. Walton 2 are responsible for flowers in church on Sundays in June, July -and August. Walton 1 are June and Sept. Plans were made for a shower on May 4. Viola closed with Advice from Lent. Lunch was prepared by Olene Dennis, Esther Dennis, Alberta Hudie and Agnes Schade., WALTON 2 MEETS Walton 2 unit Apr. meeting was held at the home of Margaret Craig on Wednesday evening. Devotions in the Easter theme were led by Kathryn Baan. A special reading from the Psalm and Matthew on the death and resurrection was given by Mrs. Baan. Business was conducted by Marilyn McDonald, assisted by secretary Maxine Houston. Prices were set for the ham and turkey supper at the church on Tuesday, June 5. There is a special event coming up April 23 at 6 p.m. United Church, Wingham as many as are interested are to attend. It will be a joint meeting for both units on May 2. PALM SUNDAY AT DUFF'S UNITED CHURCH Palm Sunday greeters at Duff's United Church were Graeme and Helen Craig. Pianist - Marion Godkin. Ushers Martin Baan, Campbell Wey and Paul McCallum. The Rev. Charles A. Swan's sermon was "On the Road to Jerusalem." EASY RIDER —Jason Phelan can hardly wait till he's old enough to own end ride an ATC. But Jason did a lot of practicing at the Brussels Lions Town and Country Tradefest Last weekend. The two day affair featured over 50 exhibits. Ushers were Lisa Bosman, Connie Hoggart • Cathy Kennedy and Crystal Whyte. Colin Swan conducted service. Junior teachers were June Fothergill, Yvonne and Sherry Hoggart. A full house attended the fourth annual Song Fest Sunday evening. Huilett Central School Band opened and the Lobb Brothers Quartet played, accomp- anied by their mother Mrs. Mervin Lobb. The Kings Messengers, a male quartet performed with soloist Bill Jewitt, accomp- anied by Barb Bosman and Mabel Scott accompanied by Gail Lear. Wesley Willis U.C. Junior Choir sang with director Mary Hearn and pianist Bonnie Jewitt. Bagpipe numbers were performed by John Jewitt, accompanied by Barb Bosman. The evening was concluded with a hymn with Lisa Duizer, organist and Gail Lear pianist. Special honors were made to Mabel Scott, a soloist who is a Huronview resident and in her 92nd year. She is a life long resident of the community. SHUFFLEBOARD Apr. 4 winners of shuffleboard are ladies high. Audrey Thompson; second high, Genevieve Allen; low, psora Shobbrook, second low, Helen Lawson; mens' high, Lorne Honking; second high,' Torn Allen; low, Bob Thompson, se low, Les Reid; playoff winners, Audrey and Bob Thompson; low, Helen Lawson and Tom Allen. Games will continue next week on Apr. 11. There were 10 tables in play at Wi cards on Apr. 6. Winners were ladies high, Florence Routzon, Clinton; lone hands, Stella Adams; low, Rena Watt, Blyth; men's high, Elmer Murray, Clinton; lane hands, Miller Richmond, Blyth; low, Frank Thom, Clinton. In charge was Helen Lawson. The U.C. W. meeting will be held Apr. 16 at 8 p.m. when Mrs. Allen Shaddick will tell of her trip to Australia, New Zealand, and Tahiti Islands. Clara Riley spent the past week in Auburn with Lana, Leslie and Marty Lawrence. PERSONALS' Mr. and Mrs.. Dirk Garlichs of Kitchener spent Saturday with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Allen Shaddick. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Thompson attended an 85th birthday party on Saturday for Roby Noecker of Moorefield. Sunday guests at the manse with Mr. and Mrs. Colin Swan, Elizabeth, Laura Jane and David and Mr. and Mrs. Cam Schacht. Karen and Stephen of London. Mr. and Mrs. Allen Shaddick visited on Sunday with her sister Irene Ferguson of London. Jean Scott visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Jim Scott of Goderich. Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Mustard and Sheldon of Stratford visited on Sunday with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lee. Mabel Scott of Huronview visited on Sunday with her nephew Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lee, Mr. and Mrs. Dave McLeod of Mitchell visited on Sunday with her sister Olive Penfound and Elgin on Sunday evening with her cousin Dora Shobbrook. Beth Knox visited on -Sunday with her cousin Margaret Carter at Brookhaven Nursing Home, Wingham. Senior citizens are invited to attend H.C.S. dress rehearsal for spring concert Monday evening. The Lord's Supper was enacted with communion served by Bruce Clark, Emerson Mitchell, Ken McDonald, Ray Huether, Barry Hoegy and Graeme Craig. Mrs. Margaret Craig was welcomed as a dew elder. A special welcome was extended to Mrs. Heidi (Nater) McClure who has transferred her church membership from First Lutheran, Logan Township. Next Sunday (Easter service) will be held at 10:30 a.m. also church school. Sunday, May 6 is Bible Society Day. There were 10 ladies from Duff's UCW attended the Blyth UCW Thankoffering service Sunday evening at the United. Church. CELEBRATE ANNIVERSARY A family dinner was held in Blyth on Saturday, Apr. 14 to celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary of George and Bertha Love of Walton. Prior to, and following the dinner, guests were entertained at the home of Graeme and Faye MacDonald of Grey Township. Those in attendance in addition to the guests of honor were George, Gloria, Richard and Brian Love of Walton; Tom, Lynda, Chantelle and Matthew Love of `Waterloo; Graeme, Faye, Julie and Peter MacDonald; Joe and Helen Hoggart of Mitchell and Mrs. Estella Adams of Londesboro. THE HURON EXPOSITOR, APRIL 18, 1984 — 83 THE. BRUSSELS, Morris -and Grey Com- munity Centre was filled to capacity with exhibitors at the fifth annual Tradefest last weekend. The two-day event was the fifth time the Town and Country Tradefest was sponsored by the Brussels Lions Club. Proceeds will go to community betterment. MAC ENGEL 887-6645 Mr. and Mrs. Clare Veitch attended the Silver Broom in Duluth, Minn. recently., Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Strickler visited with friends in Hamilton on the weekend. Mrs. Ida Gordon spent a- few days ' in London with Mr. and Mrs. Sid Barnes. Mr. and Mrs. John Vanass were at the Farm Show in Toronto on Monday. Many people of the community attended the family dance on Saturday, Apr. 7. Proceeds went to the hall board and the sports committee. EUCHRE WINNERS The Canadian Order of Foresters had 14 tables at their euchre on Friday evening. Winners were as follows: high, Isabelle Bremner, Adrian Versteop; low, Isabel Craig, John Simpson; lone hands, Lourdes Genosa, Frank McKenzie; lucky score, Fred Sawyer, Ruth Martin; lucky tally, Linda Minielly, Jim Hart; lucky cup, Lots Hart. The Foresters are having another- euchre on Apr. 27 when a cash draw will take place. WMS MEET Mrs. Leslie Knight was hostess for the regular monthly meeting of the WMS on Wednesday, Apr. 11. The leader, Mrs. Wilfred Strickler used the Easter service in the Glad Tidings. Readers assisting were Mrs. Clare Veitch, Mrs. Jack Knight and Mrs. Mac Engel. Mrs. Stewart 'Steiss continued with the study on Africa, beginning with an African game. Other, readers taking part included Mrs. Stuart Stevenson, Mrs. Fred Smith, Mrs. Leslie Knight, Mrs. Gordon Engel and Mrs. Jack Knight. Mrs. G. Engel conducted the business part of the meeting. Mrs. Veitch will be -the delegate to Synodical on Apr. 24-25 in Wingham. The Spring Conference is to be held in Seaforth Presbyterian Church on May 9. Invitations were received from Atwood Evening Auxiliary and Listowel's 100th anniversary. ryIrs. Glen Allan, Milverton is the Presbyterial visitor. A donation was voted to Ewart College. At a brief Ladies' Aid meeting a committee was appointed to set up the date of the garage sale and get helpers. The lunch committees were updated. Refreshments were served by 'Mrs. Hart,.Mrs, F.
