50 crazy Wit?,
We ail have a little craziness In us and.do'
crazy things. 'According to the;definit}on, of
insane which says insane means,senseless,
people are doing insane things everyday, but
we aren`t insane, are We?
+For eaatltple, ,ti+me acid time again you see
stores, restaurants and gas stations apoie gr-
in contests where you can Win fabulous
prizes if iyon collect all of the letters in a,
certain merit or an instant win prize in a"
scratch to win game. Potato chip` bag's and
chocolate bar wrappers are 'great for having
gables: such as these on them.
So, for mouths 100's if not 1,000's of people
ggo around collecting all kinds of wrappers and
freesgeme cards that would usually, go in the
garbage'with the far-fetched idea that they
will be a .lucky winner. Is this crazy?
senseless? insane? - maybe so, but it's fun.
Lots of people do it and some even win!
Another example of this is the many people
who collect coupons. Coupons are a greatyway
to, save money on items on your.`grocery list;
We all know it is not crazy to, save mOneyl
However, when you use a coupon to save 25c
on a product you don't usually buy and don't
particularly need just for the sake of using it,
that is crazy, but not unusual. It is done many
times by many people:
People are known for doing all kinds of
unexplainable things. Food brings to mind
many examples. Have you ever noticed that
, mothers are constantly saving things,
whether it be old clothes, towels to be made
into cleaning rags or more typically leftover'
food. The gravy left over from a roast may sit
in an old, ethpty margarine tub (something
mothers are also known for collecting, just in
case they may have a purpose someday)' for
weeks. If you were to question its worth. you
may get a reply such as "Keep it, it's not
moldy yeti"
Mothers are not the only ones guilty of
keeping things without a reasonable explana-
tion for doing so. We are all familiar with
saving. boxes of all shapes, old notes and
letters and other knick-knacks without having
a logical excuse.
Why do people save plastic and paper bags
week' after week, allowing them only to take
up space in the cupboard? Why do people
save elastics, pins and twist ties off of store
bought goods knowing perfectly well they
wont be able to find them next time they
need them? Craziness.
Again and again we do things without
being able to give a reason why. I'm sure you
know, someone who sets his/her alarm clock
every morning for no later than 7 a.m. only to
either sleep right through it awakening
everyone else in the house or else fight with
the snooze button. No doubt when they finally
do wake up they are upset and miserable
because they have slept late and may be late
for work or school. Yet, the next day they will
go through the same routine!
Once a person winces up, particularly
women, they go through the unending
struggle of what to wear. A woman may
change six or seven times a day and stiltend
up unsatisfied by her choice of dress. Worse
yet, after many changes of clothing she may
decide that she likes her first outfit that she4iQR;the,bestl Yo tau t vin,, »
,People 'seent to do things byhabit A
person may look at his watch six tidies in' ve
minutes just by habit. Os they may wash their
hands or hair even if they are not dirty. It goes
on and on.
Tell me, why does a person who has just
completed a three course meal go into the
kitchen and head straight for the refrigerator
just to see what's in it? What logical reason is
there for a person to ask a perfect stranger
how they are now when they didn't know how
they were in the first place and then they
don't even bother to listen for a rely?
I have got to be the worst person for asking
stupid questions. One of the most common
questions that I ask is "What was i going to
say?" Come now; howis a person supposed
to know what 1 am going to say if 1 didn't say
ft?
Another example is the "Are you all
right?" phrase expressing genuine concern.
The problem is. the person may have fallen
from the CN Tower onto a cement sidewalk
and people are still going to ask him if he's
