Queensway residents bake a bate

Mansfield and was responded to by Mrs.
Marg Upshall N.G. of Amber Lodge.
Thirty five year jewels were presented to
Pat Volland,Russell Ferguson, Harold
Parker, Bill Coleman and Charles Hay. A
floral arrangement on the head table was
drawn for by Mrs. Hugh Hendrick and won by
Mrs. Linda Traquair.
Brother Dalrymple thanked the ladies for
the meal served.
The guest speaker was Miss Madeline
Sulley of Godench, the 1983 delegate to the
United Nations sponsored by the Lodges, She
showed slides and narrated her trip. Cecil
Pepper thanked her and she was presented
with a gift by Noble Grand Gerald Upshall.
A quartette from Seaforth including Bill
Campbell, George Ribey, Ken Campbell and
Marlen Vincent favoured with numerous old
songs.
Mrs. Nan Britton opened the Easter
Meeting of Unit IV with a poem "Advice from
Lenten for Feast and Fast". The devotional
by Hazel Luther "The Meaning of the
Cross".
Mary Roobol sent one birthday card and
one get -well card. Myrtle Sherritt gave the
treasurer's report.
A bus is going to Wingham Apr. 23 for the
Presbyterial. An invitation was accepted for
Apr. 10 to St. Peter's Lutheran Church,
Zurich. Members are to be at the church 6:30
p.m. and Apr. 9 to help set up for the
barbecue and prepare vegetables etc. A quilt
Craft Hobby Show at Exeter 1.4:30 April 14.
The study was taken by Shirley Luther and
she opened with the story of the life of Jesus
under the title "Thoughts About Easter'.
Nan closed with Benediction and lunch was
served by Muriel Richardson, Mary Roobol
and Elva Forrest.

South Huron Youth for Christ held their
rally on Ape. 7 in Brucefield school with about
175 attending.
Ron Westlake board chairman opened the
rally with several choruses with Pearl Ann
Martin at the piano. Edgar Cudmore led in
graver. Quiz time followed with Bob Forrest
y in charge, filling in for Bob Heywood. Three
teams, Zurich, Bayfield, and Goderich
quizzed on Titus, chapter 2. The Zurich team
had the highest score.
May rally will be the final quizzing on
Titus, chapter 3.
Mr - rian Danter om Windsor was the
guest speer. as a former rock singer.
He minister hrough song and testimony,
accompanying himself on guitar. He told
about his younger life and how he got
involved with a rock band and how he came to
see the emptiest of the life he was living and
turned his life over to Jesus Christ.
The May rally will be Saturday, May 5 at

DELEGATE ELECTION
A Meeting of the Federal Huron -Bruce
Liberal Association will be held on
Thursday, April 26, 1984 at Seaforth
Public School, at 8:00 p.m.
The Meeting will elect five (5) delegates
and seven (7) alternates to the Liberal
Party of Canada Leadership Convention
to be held in Ottawa, June 14, 15, 16,
1984.
To be eligible to vote, you must hold a
paid-up membership purchased at least

the school with Ace Clarke of Hamilton, Mr.
Clark was a fornfer leader of a motorcycle
gang. His conversion is ministering in many
area churches. He will be accompanied by his
wife who sings. Pe pure and come and bring
all the family and hear this outstanding man.

Rev. Kenneth Knight conducted worship
in Carmel Presbyterian Church on Sunday,
speaking on the subject "Dead But Now 1
Live". Mrs. Joan Keys presided at the organ:

Saturday, Apr. 14 at 2 p'.m.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Hewitt of Listowel
were Sunday guests with Rev. McDonald and
attended the morning worship, at the United
Church.
Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Adams of Exeter were
recent visitors with the, latter's sister Mrs.
Jack Corbett.

pot -luck dinner, All members are invited.

, The highlight of MondaAY y's activities was
bingo with the Arnold Circle ladies of Hensall
Presbyterian Chu;ch.
Tuesday morning everyone enjoyed them-
selves as they tried their hand in charades,
The Tuesday, church service was conducted
by Rev. Stan McDonald of the Hensall United
Church. He was assisted by Kay Mock and
Joyce Pepper.
Wednesday morning the creative side of
everyone was shown as they worked with
crafts according to their individual interests.
In the afternoon, tables of croklnole and
checkers were played..
On Thursday morning the aroma of
homemade cookies was present after the
,Baking Club got together and made a couple
of batches of cookies. For those that were not
interested in baking, their aim was tested as
they worked at the bean bag toss. In the
afternoon a movie was viewed by the
residents.
Friday morning was bowling time. With
the arrival of spring weather more of the
residents decided it was time to get out and
enjoy It. Neil Regan and Ross Thompson were
the high men with scores of 127 and 114.
Genevieve Windover and Stephanie Bosse
were high ladies with scores of 95 and 87.
On Sunday afternoon the beautiful weather
was enjoyed. by those residents who were
outdoors for a walk.
CHURCH NEWS
"On BeingThe Truth" was the sermon at
the United Curch on Sunday morning when
Mr. McDonald spoke from Jesus words "I
Am The Truth".
The choir anthem was "One Sweetly
Solemn Thought" by R.S. Ambrose wit
Donna St. John as soloist. The children's
story was "Jesus Is The Rock" and the
children sang Jesus is the Rock of My
Salvation.
David,Brock greeted the congregation and
Larry Elder, Harold Parsons, Lloyd Ferguson
and Eric Mansfield were the ushers.
The Venture In Mission news was'given by
Dorothy Parker when she spoke of the work of
building a new congregation in Peterbor-
ough. The flowers at the front of the church
were placed in memory of Mrs. Inez McEwan
by her daughter Donna and Harry Smith.

cannot visit Hensall
The first motion passed when Hensall
council met for its regular April meeting was
a resolution by Richard Packham rescinding
the motion approved the previous month
stipulating that parking by-law violators be
given a warning for the initial offence,
Mr. Packham, author of the March.
motion, had since discovered it conflicted
with the existing parking • bylaw. He
apologized to enforcement officer Herman
Van Wieran for any adverse effects of the
mix-up.
Five tenders for maintenance of the
village's landfill site once a week for a
12 -month period were opened while Steve
Ross of Burns Ross Associates was present.
As the two lower bids were almost half the
other three, the $8,900 lowest tender of
Clarence Carter and Sons, Lucan, was
accepted subject to verification of references
by Ross. The Carter firm has done work at
the Lewis landfill site near'tucan, and Mr.
Ross told council he had talked to Carter who
was fully aware of what the job required.
Only one tender, for $2,800 from Julie
Knip's Cleaning and Maintenance, was
received for maintenance of the landscaped
section of the BIA area. Though council
agreed the firm had done an excellent job
last year, they decided not to accept the 1984
tender as it represented an almost 100
percent increase in cost. Instead, other
alternatives will be examined.
Lorne Archer appeared before council to
complain about water entering his basement
through the drain every time it rains. This
has happened since the installation of
sewers last year. He was premised a
thorough discussion, hopefully leading to a
solution of his problem, when the streets and
drains committee meets later this month.
Huron county tree inspector Joe Gibson
will be invited to come to Hensall to examine
all trees on public property and tell council
which ones are dangerous and should be
removed. The public will be notified of the

date of the visit, so anyone wanting a
diagnosis of a tree on private property can
meet with Gibson.
A by. -law was passed establishing an
interest rate' of 1'/4 percent per month on
taxes due and unpaid after December 31,
1983. '
The mill rate for 1984 taxes will be set
within the next two months. It will be based
on a 6.84 increase in the 1984 levy for
elementary school purposes, a 5.23 percent
increase in the secondary school levy, a 6.19
increase for separate school support and a
17.91 increase in the county levy due td
decreased apportionment, increased 're-
quirements, and change in the guaranteed
grant.
The total taxable municipal assessment
for 1984 of 52,032,293 represents a change of
less than one percent from last year's figure
of 52,013,835.
Building inspector Herman Van Wieran
reported he had notified the owners of the
former hardware store of the deteriorating
condition of the facade of the building, and
given them two weeks to comply. One week
has since gone by.
Works superintendent Don Towton's
resignation was accepted with regret.
A 53,000 Wintario grant has been received
and transferred to the Centennial fund.
Brian Richman brought in a proposed
two-page layout of pictures, map and print
for the Huron County Atlas. A new map is
required.
Dates for two public meetings have been
set. An industrial development strategy
meeting will b4 open to the publle on April
26 at 7:30 p.m. In the Hensall Public School,
and anyone interested is invited to a meeting
with the Huron County planning department
in the school on May 8 at 7:30.
