• 88 -- THE HURON EXPOSITOR, APRIL 4, 1984 Sears and Switzer are BY RON WASSINK If, at the end of a vaudeville comedy performance your jaw is sore from laughing, it means the show must have been good. An evening with Sears and Switzer on Wednes- day, Mar. 28 at the Blyth Summer Festival was almost unbearable towards the end of the evening mainly due to the above mentioned "•'lock jaw" effect. But if the amount of laughter was any indication, it would appear the audience was either reserved in showing ,their emotions; did not understand or get the meaning behind ' some one line jokes; or 'didn't appreciate humor. Often noted for my biziare sense of humor (the television show of the same name is a favorite), the material selected by Theresa Sears and David Switzer, in most cases was hilarious. Comedy routines covered all walks of life, from the innocent child, to the'farmer, and politics. However. the audience' did not appreciate one liners that involved vulgar language or swearing. This was evident by lack of response to what could have been a goed joke. The stage set was colorful and suited the needs of Sears and Switzer who used their props to the fullest. Their quick changes were amazing, At the same time, Ms. Sears' introductory costume-waq•;distracting. Most males were probably focussing their atten- tion on her bosum which was scantily covered with what seemed a black, lacy slip. One male observed his concentration was only focussed on Ms. Sears, not the underlying humor of the comedy routine. But taking everything into consideration, live comedy was a treat for the audience. It was a rare treat. The farmer routines proved the most popular including the line, old MacDonald was a farmer and his postal code was EIEIO. AnnthPr war the mi 1,Th man is makine all a ECU the money while many farmers are ggding broke. A farmer went to a restaarant, had a ham sandwich; The price he paid for the sandwich meant each of his pigs' was worth $13,000. "Grow all the crops you want, but plow every third farmer under," was another line by Sears and Switzer. The best political joke referred to an asexual nude who never .thought of sex sand had, no desire to have sex. But one day he visited a friend in Ottawa, and all he could think of was sex. ''Here I thought my friend; his wife, kids and furniture were safe. But after only 15 minutes on Parliament Hill, I felt like screwing somebody." The material used at the Blyth show was selected from the Sears and Switzer reper- toire from such shows as "Muscles and Money", "Betting on Fugues", "The Sex Act", and their work on CBC radio and television. , `tevens DISC JOCKEY SERVICE • • • • • • • 11 ACADEMY AWARD • NOMINATIONS • • • • • • • REMEMBER • • TUES. The following day, The Birkenfeld County Youth Orchestra of West Germany will give an afternoon performance. ' "The Vaudevillians" presented by, The Theatre Circle will play April 19-21 and on Sunday, April 29, audiences will be enter- tained by the "Moe Koffman Jazz Quintet". If the first two shows presented at the Blyth Summer Festival are any indication, the 1984 season at the Blyth Summer Festival should be good. • FAMILY ‘i,J98 14111)onti, Pndwlims • 14,4441111 born/ 4luu btune•unn O, Int u,• • • • ••••••,•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••\. • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • STEiMG-DRIVE-IN THE MUSTANG REOPENS FRI.; APRIL 6 FRI--SAT.-SUN., APRIL 6-7-8 1 1 1 1 1 Jackpot- $1,000 ' 1 1 MONSTER BINGO 1 APRIL 5th 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 must go Hensall Community 1 Centre Auditorium 1 8 p.m. 1 Mini Early Birds start 1 at 7:45 p.m. 1 Doors open at 6:30 p.m. i Brjng your dabbers Admission: $1.00 1 Door Prizes Li►/Ainri AW Ar•i moi.
