During the month of Manch, the residents
of Callander Nursing Home have been
studying Hawaii. Since residents are, unable
to go to the exotic land, it was brought to
them. Mrs. Edna Pearson came in and talked
about her trip. to Hawaii.' She brought many
articles with her. The women wear flowers. in ,
their hair the same way we wear rings on our
fingers. A flower on the left side means you.
are married or spoken for. A. flower on the
right side means you are single and looking.
Rene Richmond talked about her trip to
Hawaii with the Lion's Club'She brought in
many pictures and a grass skirt, a good luck
charm and a carving that was made from a
piece of lava. Residents made and served a
Hawaiian punch.
Ross Hamilton from Wieggpam showed
a slide presentation on the landscape from his
numerous trips to Hawaii. The' land is so
beautiful, with wild flowers and volcanoes, to
large bustling cities such as Honolulu.
The Hawaiian food is quite different from
Canadian dishes. Jeanette Boynton prepared
a couple of dishes for residents to sample
including shrimp or'deurves, Hawaiian ham
steak and fried bananas, sweet' potato puff
and aloha salad, The meal was 'topped off
with a piece of fresh' pineapple, melon, and a
cheery on a toothpick, along .with some.
Hawaiian punch. Residents and staff enjoyed
the delicious treats. They also broke open a
coconut and sliced up a whole pineapple. It
was quite an adventure. ,
