'The cold March winds have made us feel like winter will never end, especially after the beautiful weather we had in February, The snow has almost completely dis. appeared and the delicate tips of the tulips were peaking their heads through the soil. But, much to their sorrow, they must waist a wee bit longer as winter returned in alit of anger, only to create havoc on the roads and throughout the country. Over the past few months many important events have happened such as Christmas, the end of one year and the beginning of another, Many people have travelled to warmer climates to take a brief break from the long winter. Babies were born, anniversaries and birthdays were celebrated. Friends and relatives from near and far have come to the area to visit. The March break 'is now over and the youngsters are all back to school and counting the days until their next holiday weekend, which is Easter. University students are preparing for final exams while searching desperately for summer employment to help cover their tuition in the fall. The common cold and flu bug has caught a great many people in its clutches and made their lite quite miserable for a few days,. Partners..."Looking back Ontario" asks seniors to bring their memories and experiences to the classrooms of elementary school children. "Senior citizens can bring to life the important events and traditions which have contributed so much to Ontario's progress", said Margaret Birch, Parliamentary Assist- ant • to the Premier. "Partners is an opportunity for young and old to share Ontario's Bicentennial celebration in 1984." The Secretariat is asking elementary schools and senior citizens' groups through- out the province to work together on the development of classroom activities. One activity might be the creation of a school museum featuring antiques and old photo- graphs collected by students and seniors in the community. Both groups would be responsible for organizing and promoting the museum's collection, As a history project students could trace the beginning of an Ontario town or township and write about its development through -the years up to 1984. Seniors could recreate for the students changes they have seen during their life -time. So that senior citizens' organizations and schools can go ahead with these types of plans for Partners, the Secretariat sent out an activity guide and promotional materials in January. individuals from seniors' centres. homes for the aged, nursing homes, boards of education and elementary schools throughout the province are encouraged to become involved in Partners. Senior citizens have a wealth of knowledge to share. They experienced two World Wars and the Great Depression. By talking to them students can get a better perspective on the past and this is bound to give young people a better appreciation of Ontario's rich heritage. 500 g pkg- 125 g pkg.
