BY GARY GRAY
After winning the first game of their
division semi-finals on Lucan ice, the
Seaforth Centenaires dropped four straight to
be eliminated from further play. Lucan now
advances against Exeter in the division
finals.
Penalties proved costly for the Centenaires
especially in the last three games in which
they gave up 12 power play goals.
In game three played in Seaforth' the Irish
scored four unanswered goals (all on the
power play) in the second period 'and then
held off a third period comeback attempt by
the Centenaires to emerge as 7-6 winners.
Lucan jumped into .an early 2-0 lead on
goals by Dave Egan and Brent Bannerman by
the 6:50 mark of the first period only to have
perseverance pay off for the Centenaires.
Dave Murray as he scored an unassisted
short handed goal with one minute remaining
to cut the Lucan Lead to 2-1.
In the middle frame the Irish took
complete control due mainly to Centenaire
penalties. At 4:14 Doug Sykes was sent to the
penalty box for a hooking infraction and just
18 seconds later Brad Hodgins beat Cente-
naire goalie Keith McClure to up their lead, to
3.1.

seven seconds into the Lucan powerplay.

another power play goal in the last minute as

sends after the Centenaires Dave Erb was
penalized for high -sticking.
Lucan outshot the Centenaires by a wide
19-10 margin in the period.
In the third frathe it was all Seaforth as they
outshot the Irish 23-5 due mainly to the fact
that the Irish spent several minutes in the
penalty box.
The Centenaires twice had powerplay
opportunities early in the period but .were
stymied by the superb goaltending of Powell.
Just past the 10 minute mark of the period
John Ifickneli finally beat Powell with usilitd;
goinggto linemates Jeff Pauli and Dav;
McLlwain to' make the score 6-2. Les than
two minutes later Dale assisted by Dave
Murray scored to cut the Lucan lead to three
goals. ,
Then at 17:05 Al Craig scored the seventh
Irish goal and eventual winner. Thirteen
second's later the Centenaires bounced back
with an unassisted goal by Murray illman (itis
first goal of the season) to make the score 74.
It took the Centenaires just ten seconds to
get their fifth goal as Dale got his second with
assists going to Blman and Greg Murray, The
Centenaires missed on several golden
chances due mainly to Powell in the dying
minutes. Dave Murray notched his second
goal of the game with only one, second
remainingetmake the final score 7-6. A total
of 100 minutes in penalties were called in the
game with both teams taking equal amounts.

than a minute apart to regain the three goals
lead they had after the first period.

16-13 but could not beat the goaltending of
Lucan's Bart Powell.
In the third period John Hicknell scored the
Centenaires fourth goal at the 2:50 mark to
pull them within two of the Irish. Seaforth
