1, K8cl6 show your love on Valentine BY TRISH RIMMER Valentine's Day has come )and gone once again this year. What a special day it is! Itis a chance, ted tell those you love and those you like hove: important they are to you. Most people choose a card to send to friends and loved ones. They spend a great deal of time standing in front of a rack of valentines try g to select the most aPpr priate card. Firsf'they go through the mush valentines, the the funny Anes and then if they still hafen t found exactlywhat the, are looking y for, they put their hands over th it eyes and point! Everyone has a different method of card, hunting, Sogne creativelchildren may deide to save their pennies and make a valentine for Mom, Dad, friends or relatives. When you know that a child has put some time and effort into!! making a valentine especially for you it makes that card all the more special. Even if the child gives you a card that they bought or punched out of a valentine book with their name on the back, there is a special feeling into any occasion,\\ including Valentine's Day. I watched a gaup of children open valentines that they Riad exchanged with one another last week, After they opened each valentine, they would e)tamine it carefultt,- admiring every color and object on the card. Then they would show their friends the beat valentine that they were given. Every time they were given a valentine they went through the same routine, smiling the whole time. It was then that I realized how important valentines really are...and not just to children. Knowing that a person cares enough about you to remember you with a valentine is enough, to make anyone smile. While valentine cards are a super way to express your feelings to someone you care about, some of the richer people buy gifts for their loved ones. A man may bring home some flowers, chocolatesor jewellery for example to his wife. This token of love is sure to bring some smiles oreven maybe tears, happy tears of course. His wife may surprise him with her own variations of gifts. Perhaps she will have a gift to give him or surprise him with his favorite dinner or a valentine cake. So,far'; I have listed various ways to show relatt'es and friends that you care for them, However, each of these gestures were by giving someone, something...material things. There are many other ways to show someone you care. Just think how much a hug can say to a person about the way you feel for them. Just having a good talk with a person can say ten times more ,.than a Verse in a valentine card can say. At valentine says many very nice things but by visiting with a friend or helping them out, you are not just saying words that say you like a friend, you are proving it. Valentines are given every year by many people. People receiving valentines appreciate them to no end. They read them and then often put them away in a safe place to keep them. Kind gestures do not seem as common THE HURON EXPOSiTOR, FEBRUARY 15, 1984 — A5 Tatty GNU read • always fresh • highest quality • no preservatives as valentines, and instead of putting them away y ere..they could possibly be forgotten they*** ygiar thoughts and remembered again and again. Inviting a friend to gi fora walk costs nothing and a great-de,ali m, y be gained from it. Taking the time to" have a walk with a friend is a good indication that you like that person. The memory. of the walk will be rewarding enough' buttheextra bonus is that you will get some exercise as well, You may think that I am gbtting way, off topic but in reality I am.not. Valentine's Day is a day for showing- people you care. Most people do this by givingcards and gifts as I have already mentioned, but there is more to it than that. People can say things In cards and gifts but showing someonelhat you care by helping them out, giving them some kind words or advice and giving them some of your time to do something as simple as enjoying a friendly game of cards. Valentines are available in the stores for just a 'few weeks' in a year., On' Feb. 14, millions' of people show their love for one another, by giving gifts, cards, flowers and compliments to one another. It is a Wonderful occasion bedause se many nice things are done and said. People remember how important their parents. are, how special.. their spouses are, chow thoughtful their girlfriends, and boy- , 'friends. are, how giving, their children are and how considerate their friends are. '4 People actually spend a whole day of kindness. It is a wonderful day: - Something confuses me though? Why is it only one day a year that people go out of their way to do nice things for their loved ones? Aren't those people dear to you all year round? People need loving and affection all, year round. Valentine's Day is over and most valentine cards and choco- lates are taken off the shelf. Does this mean that we can no longer show our appreciation and love to those close to us? Think about it; HAVE .A HEART—Grades one, two and three at St James Separate School made Valentines last- week.
