Heart disease
still number one
Sometimes, being number one is not
such'a good thing)
Figures released recently by Statistics
Canada show that the leading cause of death
in Canada is still heart disease. When
combined with deaths due to stroke, one
realizes the need for the continuance of
medical research into our nation's major
health problem - heart disease and stroke,
The Ontario Heart Foundation has sup-
ported vital heart and stroke research and
education in Ontario for many years and will
continue to do so until the problem has been
conquered.
February is "Heart Month" in Canada and
the month during which the Foundation
conducts its annual fund-raising campaign.
Thousands of volunteer canvassers will be
going door-to-door asking for contributions to
the "Heart Fund".
The provincial objective for the 1984
"Heart Fund" campaign is 59,050,000 and
from this amount 89 per cent will be directed
into medical research and education in
Ontario.

D'yuwant to be a leader?
Over 6,000 adults volunteer every year to
be club leaders illi Ontario's 4-11 program
bechuse they enjoy the opportunities 4-H
offers. Their duties depend to someextend on
their location, their club and their own
individual talents, but one -day training
workshops will prepare leaders for specific
projects.
Many 4-H club leaders plan their club's
program. Most leaders prea,.ai. the lesson
material to their members and pass on some
of the training they have received. Club
leaders check project books, some make visits
toe ch of their members and some assist with
cou ty programs suchas achievement days.
B t all 4-8 club ieadejrs help our province's
young people by teaching them skills,
developing their individual talents and
feelings of self-worth, providing opportuni-
ties for new experiences, listening to them,
and by encouraging them to "Learn to do by
Doing" - the 4-H motto.
