Protein level affects fertility
The amount and type of protein in rations Assuming that the cors were fed 44 lbs. of
fed to cows during peak production may be dry matter, this would amount to 5.58 lbs.
havingan affect on conception.
Reearch at Orem State University made protein to the second group, and 8.49
showed that conception rates were lower lbs. protein to the third group.
when cows were fed rations with high levela . Cows fed the higher level of protein
of soluble -protein (protein that can be
degraded in the rumen). If the rations
contained lower amounts of protein or if the
protein was by-passed so that it was not as
so/able 1t3 the tureen, conception rates
appeared to be higher.
Cows in the study dining the first 14
weeks of lactation were feel' rations that
contained 12.7,16.3 or 19.37 exude protein.
showed heat sooner after calving. Bet they
had lower conception rates and longer open
periods. More services per conception were
also required.
Conception rates may have differed
between cows fed high and low protein
rations because of differences in some
reproductive bormones.
