As the %ILA,' Jr. "D" Hockey League
(Northern Diyipon) swings into the final
month of regality season play,, only one team
has clinched; a play-off position while the
remaining filllierlelbs stay in a close battle for
the ether three potitions.
The Exeter Hawks have all but Flinched
first place as they have 40 points, 16 more
than second re Lucan Irish who have 24
points. The Irish' have only seven games
remaining.„.„
The Seaforth Centenaires hold down third
place, one point behind the Irish with 23 but
have nine tames remaining.
Tavistock Braves (last year's All -Ontario
Champions) are only two points back of the
Centenaires but have 11 games remaining.
while the Thedford Browns trail the pack
with 20 points and have nine games to play.
The Centenaires° nine games include five
home games and four away games. At home
they face Exeter twice, Thedford, Tavistock
and Bothwell while on the road they visit
Exeter. Thedford, Tayistock and 'Thames -
ford.
During the'holidays, the Centenaires,
played five games, winning two, losing two
and tieing one. They defeated Lakin 7-6,
and Thamesford 4-3"While they lost a 13-12
shootout in Belment and were defeated 7-5
by the Irish in Lucan. The tie game was 4-4
with Mt, Brydges.
Dave McLlwain (the.Centenaires' leading
scorer) picked up a total of 44-feciete-dttling
the past five games based on. seals, end
three assists to lead the Centeno:Ikea ciffence.
Centenaire Scents: The Centenaires have
two home, games this week (Tries:4014 10.
Exeter and Friday and „Trin., 13 -Bothwell).
Dave McLlwain has opened up an eight point
lead over linemate Jeff Pauli in the race for
the Centenaire scoring title.
McLlwain has, a leading 33 goals and 22
assists for 55 points while Pauli has 23 goals
and a leading 24 assists for,47 points,
Dave Murray is a distant third with 34
points on 16 goals and 18 assists.

Goaltender Keith McClure who got off to a
slow start appears to be coming into top form
as be has looked extremely sharp in his last

The eight team event was a single knock
out affair which was eventually wonby* the

Howick 7-5 in the final game.

Jeff Pauli' and Darren Watts.
The Centenahes fell behind 3-0 in the first
period but played ., well in the final two
despite the loss. The final Howick goal wee

On Wednesday, Jan. 4, the Pee Wees
travelled to Goderich and won by an
overwhelming score of 12-1. Both teams
were scoreless going into the second period.
Jason Schoonderwoerd's goal at the eight
minute mark of the second period. stetted
them off/dark Reid added the second 'goat in
the period to end it 2-0.

Wingham Pee Wees and won by a closer
score of 4-2,
Both teams were evenly matched. No
scoring took place in the first period.
Seaforth opened the scoring in the second
period at the 7:48 mark by Jason Schoonder-
erd by Ray Murray. Wingham
followed with a goal to end the period 1-1.
/In the third Seaforth added two quick
goals, one by Sean Cook assisted by Scott
Mew. and - -goal by Jason Rodney assisted

is on the side lines between the hog lines.

Seaforth defeated a team from Palmerston
to win District 13 A -B in the Labatt Tankard
playdown on Jan. 8 in Exeter. The team
composed of Gord Pryce, skip; Bill Camp-
bell, third; Mike Thomas second and Dave
Ste. Marie lead had previously won the first
round in Listowel Dec. 17.
The first game Sunday. was a convincing
win over Peter Miller's team from Durham
11-4, but the, final game against Dave Triter
from Palmerston was very close -with-the
Pryce rink winning 6-5,
The next round between District 13, 14.
15, 16 will be played Jan. 14 at Guelph.
A mixed team composed of Neil and Marie
McGavin. Don and Pat Dalton entered a
spiel in Teeswaier Jan. 7 and won the
consolation' prize. They also enjoyed the
days curling.
A men's team composed of -Doug
Rowdiffe skip, John Patterson_Jx. third; D.
'Ste. Marie, second and Bob Ste. Marie, lead
was entered in the Royal Canadian. Legion
District Playdown in Goderich Jan. 7. They
wen on Saturday but lost out Sunday in the
finals to a team from Meaford who will go on
to the Ontario finals.
The ladies at the time of this writing have
rent a team composed of Flo Smith. Terry
Ward, Kay Campbell and Audrey Beuerman
to Walkerton. Jan. 9 where they are entered
in senior ladies district 1311-playdown. More

Jan. 21,22 should be lots of fun. The curling
dub is becoming involved and under winter
carnival curling, is accepting entries. It is
going to be a fun day and you do not need
my curling experience. There will be two
games with the first game at 10 a.m. There
are four entries in now, so get your team
entered. An carnival visitors and partici-
penis are welcome to drop in and watch and
pin in on the fun.
