The past year has been a ,successful one for recreation in Seaforth, says the town's recreation director, Bryan Peter. Highlights Include the first recreation conference which involved 60 per cent of all community groups in town and Sportsfest which saw the town population more than double for a weekend of sports. "We had people working and cooperat- ing together to make„Sportsfest a success and the recreation conference will help that cooperation and coordination continue into 1984,” says. Mr. Peter. Other recreation programs were also a success. Minor sports teams didn't all win championships but "if kids enjoy them- selves and learn the basics, that's success- ful," says Mr. Peter. Of course, a major accomplishment of the Sports -minded town was the opening of the Seaforth and District Community Centres where children and adults can continue to Midget's -beat .Zu-rich .arid Mitchell with -high scores Seaforth played last Tues. Dec. 13 against Zurich and the lopsided score was 16-1 for Seaforth. Big shooter in that game was Greg Murray with seven goals. On Monday, Dec. 19 Seaforth travelled to Mitchell. The team didn't play as well as they can and at one point in the game they were ahead. Their goaltender 'played a very good game. Seaforth scoring was opened by Kev -WiHiamsori assisted by- -SeStt-13riscoll:- Mitchell scored the next two with David McLlwain evening the score at the end of the first period assisted by Darren Clocker. In the second period McElwain opened the scoring assisted by Driscoll. Mitchell scored the next two followed by two McLlwain goals assisted,by Greg Murray and Mark Stapleto. In the third period, Mitchell opened the scoring followed by a Seaforth goal from Trevor Price assisted. by Crocker. Mitchell followed suit. At this point the score was tied six apiece. Seaforth started playing tougher hockey and `McLlwain' scored,'. assisted by Kev. Melady followed by a goal from Trevor, Price assisted by Stapleton. The last -kW was Greg Murray assisted by McLlwain, Final score was 9 to 6 for Seaforth. With two cancelled games' this week Seaforth has yet to meet Winghani: when they do meet the game should prove exciting.
