Mr. and Mrs. Paul McCallum, Cindy and Colleen spent New Years with Mr. and Mrs. Archie Willis of Brussels. Winter short courses for Perth farmers Several courses will be getting underway in the New Year. Each course will run for ten weeks. These programs are a 'cooperative, effoit involving OMAF Stratford. Centralia College and Canada Manpower, A coordinator is - in charge of each program. There is no course fee because of a special funding arrangement with the Canadian Employment and Im- migration Commission. The following courses are scheduled for Perth County. Dairy Management. Feeder Pig Manage- ment, Sheep Management, Understanding Ag. Marketing, Soil Management and Fertility, Cash Crop Production and Market- ing. Farm Machinery Maintenance and Repair. You can register by calling the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food in Stratford 271-0280 or Centralia College 228-6691. .ate Two pork courses started last fall and continue in the New Year. The Stratford group reconvenes on the evening of Tuesday, Jan. 4 at the OMAF Boardroom. The Listowel group meets each Monday evening at Kin Station in Listowel. More details can be obtained from coordinators John and Gord Player, R. 2, Gadshill and Dan and Mary Kerr. R. 3, Listowel. TRAINING PROGRAM These. courses have been well received in the past by young farmers. More Perth people should be enrolling in these pro- grams. Young farmers who may not have had post -s nclaty agricultural education have a chance to ak lis involved in managing a dairy (swipe) ere are eight days of classroom study at the college and eight days of on-farm training conducted by a selected farmer.. Participants study most aspects of herd management including breeding. feed- ing. care of animals arid equipment operation and maintenance. The on-farm training provides an opportunity to practice specific skills and view alternative management procedures. Enrollment is limited to 40.. The programs run front 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.. Tuesday. Wednesday. Thursday, Friday each week. The dairy Nurse starts on Tuesday, Jan. 24 and continues until Friday. Feb. 17. The swine program is scheduled for the period of Jan. 31 to Feb. 24. Contractor will speak at meetinc Drainage contractor, Kelly Robinson will be the guest speaker at the regular monthly meeting of the Huron County Federation of Agriculture. The meeting will be held in the Clinton Public School on Thursday, Jan. 5 at 8:30 p.m. Mr. Robinson will speak on, "How to Make Better Use of Your Farm Drainage System.
