higher prices. Cows sold sharply hieher, Dies

Farmers can defer
reporting payments
Revenue Minister Perrin Beatty recenth•
confirmed that farmers who have elected the
cash method of reporting their income will be
permitted, under certain conditions, to defer
their reporting of crop insurance payments
until 1985.
The Minister said that he and the Minister
of Agriculture, John Wise• agreed that
administrative flexibility shogld be continued
to give relief to farmers who have suffered
hardship through climate conditions in 1984.
Mr. Beatty said that Revenue Canada,
Taxation will accept the deferral of a crop
insurance payment for farmers who have
filed crop insurance claims with insurers anti
agreed in writing, with the insurers. to defer
the payment of their claim until 1985.
Farmers are advised to contact their
District Taxation Office for further informa-
tion.
FCC is reducing
farm interest rates
The Farm Credit Corporation Canada
(FCC,) is reducing its interest rates. Loans
approved under the Farm Credit Act IFCA)
with a five•year interest rate term carry an
interest rate of 13.25 per cent. The previous
rate was 14 per cent.
"The reduction of the FCC rates is in
response to a trend towards lower cost funds
for the Corporation. This reduction should he
encouraging to farmers considering invest-
ment decisions," said Mr. Wise, minister of
agriculture.
FCA loans with a 10 year tern( now carry an
interest rate of 13 5/8 per cent compared to
the prior rate of 14 5/8 per cent. A rate of 14
per cent applies to loans with a fixed interest
rate term of 20 years. down from the previous
rate of 15 per cent.
The interest rate on loans under the Farm
Syndicates Credit Art. which enables groups
of farmers to jointly borrow to purchase
machinery, buildings or fixed equipment, is
reduced from 13.75 per cent to 13.25 per cent

Canadian dairy farmers have donated
evaporated milk valued at $200.000 to help
relieve the starvation in Ethiopia.
The Canadian Dairy Commission will
