Walton residents gather to celebrate Christmas

Walton 1 members and friends attended
the Christmas meeting on Wednesday
evening. A turkey supper was prepared by
Phyllis Mitchell and her losing side of the
copper 'Coritest.
Marie McGavin, leader of the winning side
assisted in cleaning up while Phyllis and
Mildred played several musical numbers.
Christmas carols were played by Doreen
Hackwell.
The devotions were led by Margery
Huether, reading a poem, "I Go To Church at
Christmas" followed by the Christmas
message with readings and carols. Viola
Kirkby and Melva Fraser assisted with
readings
Rev. Swan contributed a solo followed by
Marion Godkin playing a selection. Marie
McGavin told many '61 -'the Christmas
meanings, legends and symbols.
Viola Kirkby presided for the business.
Audrey Hackwell took the roll call. Offering
was received by Doreen Hackwell. Financial
report from the general meeting was given by
Leona McDonald.
Coming events were announced, the
community Carol Service at Duff's and the
annual meeting is set for Jan. 23. The new
programs for the coming year were given out
to members with the same slate of officers in
for the next year.
The exchange of gifts closed the social
hour.

The Christmas meeting of the Afternoon
Unit of Knox United Church Women,
Belgrave, was held at the home of Olive Bolt.
Dec. 11.
Sara Anderson opened the meeting with an
article about Bishop Tu Tu, winner of the
Nobel Peace Prize.
The officers for 1985 were appointed: They
are leader, Sara Anderson; secretary, Mrs.
Ross Higgins; treasurer, Mrs. Lawrence
Taylor; program convenor, Janisa Coulte-s;
social, Olive Bolt; sick and shut-in, Olive
Campbell.
The worship service was conducted by
Janisa Coultes. Mrs. Bolt gave some
Christmas poems, praise.
The roll call for the January meeting is to
bring an article on Korea, the subject of the
study.
EUCHRE WINNERS
Nine tables of euchre were in play in the WI
Hall on Dec. 11.
Winners were high lady, Mrs. Clarence
Hanna; novelty lady, Mrs. John King; low
lady, Olive Bolt; high man, Clarence Hanna:
novelty man, Wilfred Walker; low man.
Edgar Wightman.
The next euchre will be held Jan. 9 starting
at 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
WHITE GIFT SERVICE
The Sunday School observed their annual
White Gift Service at Knox United Church,
Belgrave, on Sunday. Sunday School superin•
tendent Bill Coultes conducted the service
and was assisted by Sunday School members.
• Welcoming the congregation at the door
were Corey McKee and Patrick Cull while
Katherine Procter and Paul Coultes ushered
and handed out programs. Scripture lessons
were read by Jennifer Procter and Sharon
Kellar, The regular offering was received by
Chris Michie. Robert Cordon, Allison Coultes
and Heather Morton.
Dean Vincent and David McKee collected
the White Gift offering in wicker baskets.
This money will be used to support a foster
child in the Philippines for another year.
An important part of the service was the
dedication by Rev. John G. Roberts of a
projector Nought for the use of the Sunday
School and church with money from the
Memorial Fund of the church. A screen which
was a gift of Catherine MacDonald in memory
of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Norman
Keating. former members and leaders in
Knox United Church.
The Junior Choir sang the anthem "What
Child is This". Elizabeth Procter. organist
and Mrs. Freda Johnston. pianist supplied
Christmas music for the service.
Res John Roberts stroke to the children of
the orloin of giving White Gifts and reminded
all of Jesus. words, "Inasmuch as ye have
done It unto one of the least of these ye has c
done it unto me
After the service. a lunch was scrsed in the
church school room

The regular meeting of the Evening Unit
was held Dec 4 at the home of Mrs Ross
Anderson

Graeme Craig.
Local area churches gathered in the
auditorium of Duff's United Church Sunday
evening for a combined Christmas service.
The large choir was formed by the local
churches with organist Mrs. Wilbee and
pianist Mrs. Kai and choir .leader assisted.

Londesboro United Church; Rev. Dave
Theissen, Huron Chanel Missionary Church

Sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs.
Leonard Robinson in the loss of her father Bill
Rintoul who passed' away at St. Joseph's
Hospital on Dec. 10.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hanna held
Christmas for their family on Sunday, Dec. 16
with 34 present, Those attending were from
.Kitchener, Goderich, Blyth, Londesboro and
Belgrave.
Following the dinner Ross Procter spoke
and showed slides on his trip to France, He
also showed slides of the presentation of
Doris Bushell's quilt to Queen Elizabeth at
Amhert View near Kingston. Convenors of
the meeting were Mrs. Clarence Hanna 9.nd

Institute members are reminded of change
of place for their Christmas potluck supper at
the home of Margaret Shortreed this
Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. with a gift
exchange.

evening at the home of Ruth Tharner.
In the Christmas Sunday School concert
last Sunday night it should have read that
Gloria Wilbee, playing her guitar, accompan-
