The Brussels Majestic Women's Institute
held their Christmas meeting in the library
beginning with a potluck dinner. There were
33 present and Marie McCutcheon, lona
Moore and Freda Pipe were in charge.
Get -well cards were signed to send to 3
members who are in hospital, including,
Jessie Engel, Wilma Hemingway and Lula
Kerr. Isabel Adams and Bernice MacFarlane
looked after the gift exchange. The afghan
tickets raised $176.85 and the bazaar
$291.85.
The next euchre party will be held Jan. 7 at
8 p.m. The committee in charge of the card
party is Eleanor Hemingway, Retta Hoover,
Marguerite Krauter, Laura Lucas and Alice
McArter. The members will quilt a quilt for
one of the members early in Jan.
Margaret McLeod sang a solo. Various
Christmas customs were explained with
Marie McCutcheon, Leona Armstrong, Edna
McLellan, Alice McArter and Marguerite
Krauter taking part. Alice Brothers and
Freda Pipe favored members with their usual
lively duets. Marie McCutcheon gave a
humorous Christmas reading.
WI change time
Margaret McLeod led a sing song of
Christmas carols and she also read two poems
"Christmas Doll" and "Coming Horne."
Members decided to hold the winter
meetings in the afternoon at 2 p.m.
100F DANCE
On Dec. 15 the IOOF of Brussels held their
annual Christmas dance. Mozart's Melody
Makers provided the music,t'or dancing.
Prizes for the spot dances went to Mr. and
Mrs. Norm Jarvis of RR 3, Goderich and
Doris Fischer of Brussels and Harvey Smith
of RR 3, Brussels.

During the Sunday morning service at
Melville Presbyterian Church a new coin -
mu lion set was dedicated in memory of Mr.
and Mrs. John Spier by their family.

Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Ritchie of Saudia
Arabia spent week with his parents Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Rit hie of Brussels. They are
enroute to,qAu ralia where they will spend
Christmas,'K has been in Saudia Arabia for
three years and four months. Later in the
spring they will be moving to London where
Ken will be employed.

Rev. James Ferguson of Stratford occupied
the pulpit in Knox Presbyterian Church.
Cranbrook on Dec. 9. There was a service for
the lighting of the second Advent candle.
The Sunday School had their Christmas
concert on Sunday/evening inthe church.
Stewart Steiss was the chairman for the
variety program.
The program consisted of a Christmas
pageant by the Sunday School with piano
accompaniment by Mrs. John Saxon. and
Linda Morrison reader, piano solos by
Dwayne Evans, Jennifer and Jolanda Va,
pass. and Molly Morton, a puppet show by
Rev. Don and Mrs. McInnis, Bonnie and
Andrew, a humorous skit "Grey Township
Railroad" by Mrs. Wilfred Strickler, Mrs,
Jim Hart and Mrs. Lloyd Smith, piano duets
by Mrs, Stewart Steiss and Donald Dunbar.
Santa arrived and presented the children
with candy canes. The Sunday School
children served cookies and coffee in the
basement.
There will be community carol singing on
Dec. 22. from 6:30 to 8:30 p,fn, all are asked
to meet at the Vanass home.
Donations were brought on Sunday for the

Marion Laws and Dorothy Dilworth; tenth
turkey, Debbie Riley; Ilth, Kathy Burkhold-
er; 12th, Eluned McNair.
Share the wealth for $49 went to Joanne
McDonald; 13th, Mary Bradshaw; 14th;
Marguerite Kreuter; door prize, Barb Mut-
ter.

WMS l FETING
The Dec. meeting f the WMS began with a
potluck dinner on W d. Dec, 12 at the home
of Mrs. Stuart Stevenson,
The Christmas 'service front the Glad
Tidings was used. Vice-president, Mrs. Clare
Veitch presided and other readers were Mrs.
Jack Knight, Mrs. Stewart Steiss with Mrs.
Stevenson leading in prayer.
Mrs. Steiss led in carol singing. The annual
meeting will be in First Presbyterian Church.
Seaforth, on Jan. 8 with sessions at 10 a.m.
and 1 p.m.
PERSONALS
The Canadian Foresters Court Woodbine
M100• held their regular meeting Dec. 11 in
the Cranbrook Community Centre. Thirteen
new members were inducted. Lunch was
served and all joined in carol singing with
Mary Ellen Jacklin at' the piano.
Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Newton. Shel-
bourne, visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs.
Don Cotton.
Mr. and Mrs, Wilfred Strickler attended
the funeral on Dee. 12 in Woodstock of his
aunt Mrs. Irvin Jinn.
The Hall Board held a card party Dec. 14
with seven tables playing. Prizes went to high
lady. Mildred Gill; high man. Stewart Steiss;

'Tis Christmas, the time of the celebra-
tion of the birth of the Christ Child. Sadly. the
real meaning of Christmas has been lost by
many obsessed with material values, con•
cerned only about themselves and their own
affairs with little thought for others. Thou-
sands of Canadians will sit down at a
bountiful table spread with all the traditional
foods of a Christmas dinner, At that time we
should give thought to the thousands in our
world who are starving. The death toll in
Ethiopia alone exceeds more than 300.000 not
to mention thousands more elsewhere.
