A group of residents accompanied by
Jackie Racho and Laverne Nigh attended a
,concert on Saturday evening at the London
Gospel Temple in London.
On Thursday afternoon, Shirley Luther of
the Salvation Army visited bringing with her
a Christmas message. She also sang a solo
and accompanied at the piano for the singing
of Christmas carp's. Shirley had a Christmas
treat for each resident.
On Wednesday afternoon Rev. W. Barber
was in charge of the worship service.
Henrietta Brown accompanied at the piano
for carol singing.

EARL BURLEiGH
Earl J. Burleigh of Port Bruce died at
Victoria Hospital, London on Wednesday.
Dec. 12. He was 65.
Surviving besides his wife, the former
Muriel Wolfe, are two daughters. Terry,
Mr;;. Roger Brownrigg of London; Deloris,
Mrs. Keith Estabrook of Trenton; three sons,
Donald of Port Credit, Bob and William of
London.
Also surviving are three sisters, Victoria of
London; Ruth of Dorchester; Doris of Brights
Grove; five brothers, Don of Angus; Jack of
Seaforth; Jim, Austin and Reilly, all of
London; 11 grandchildren and two great
grandchildren.
Resting at the Hinnegan and O'Neil
Funeral Home, London, funeral mass was
held at St. Mary's Church on Friday. Dec, 14.
Interment in St. Peter's Cemetery.
EVELYNPORTER
A former resident of Brussels, Evelyn
Louise Porter of London, died at the
Wingham and District Hospital on Thursday,
Dec. 13. She was 75.
Predeceased by her husband William in
1943, she is survived by two daughters,
Sheila, Mrs. David Cameron of Wingham;
Pamela Symons of Ottawa; six grandchildren
and one great grandchild.
Funeral service was held from the Brussels
Chapel of M.L. Watts Funeral Homes on
Saturday, Dec, 15. Rev. Ray Grant officiated.
Interment in Brussels Cemetery.

Baby boy Belfour aied at the Stratford
General Hospital on Tuesday, Dec. 11.
Infant son of Wesley and Dianne (Chap-
man) Belfour of Kirkton, he is survived by
one brother, Jody at home and grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs, Jack Belfour of RR 2. Dublin
and Trevor Chapman of Bridgewater, Somer-
set, England. Also surviving is his great
grandmother, Alice Chapman of Burton-On-
Trdnt, England.
He was predeceased' by his material
grandmother, Betty Chapman in 1982.

THOMAS WHYTE
Thomas M. Whyte of RR 2, Seaforth died at
his home on Monday, Dec. 17. He was 45.
Surviving besides his wife, the former
Brenda Calce, are three brothers, John of
Lindsay, Bill and Nick both of Hullett
Township; two sisters, Mary, Mrs. Frank
Vander Oakville; Margaret of
Guelp Hee is o survivedhis by his mother,

Director General appointed for DFO
William A. Rowat has been appointed
Director General of the Operations Director-
ate, Atlantic Fisheries Service at the
Department of Fisheries and Oceans' Head-
quarters in Ottawa.
The announcement was made by Dr. Art
May, Deputy Minister, Departmena of
Fisheries and Oceans, following a Public.
Service of Canada competition.
Mr. Rowat, who has been in his new
Position on an acting basis since Dec„ 1983.
is responsible for providing functional
direction to the department's Scotia -Fundy,
Gulf, Newfoundland and Quebec Regions in
the areas of resource allocation, and fisheries
development, regulation and enforcement.
Mr. Rowat was born in Drayton and is a son
of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Rowat. former
residents of Seaforth. They now reside at
Wasaga Beach. He received a Bachelor of

Department of Regional Economic Expansion
(DREE) and subsequently worked with a
number of federal departments both in

economist and policy analyst.
Mr. Rowat joined the Department of
Fisheries and Oceans' former Maritime
Region in 1979 as Senior Economist, tic was
appointed Director of Atlantic Development
Programs in Ottawa in 1980 and in 1982,
