Every parent everywhere is beseiged with the question, "How many more days's until Christmas? Dette and Jocelyn have come up with some novel ways to "count the days" until Christmas comes. THE ANTICIPATION CHAIN Cut paper for a simple link chain (strips cut from fairly substantial colored paper measuring three quarters of an inch by six inches). Number the strips one to 24 and put them in order. if you have time, write a special message (Dec. 21 - school concert) on each link before you stick it together. Form first strip into a circle and glue together, slip the next strip into the link and glue. Starting Dec. 1, have your kids remove one link per day. They'll quickly see that the length of the chain is the number of days left until Christmas. COUNT THE DAYS COOKIES Make or buy plain cookies. Spread out and number them from one to 24. Use tube icing or drizzle the numbers on with homemade icing on a spoon. Let dry well, then pack and toss in the freezer. Take out one day until Christmas. Trimming the tree, no matter when the family does it, is an exciting time. It's even more special if some (or all of the decorations) are made by family members. Jocelyn and Dette have collected some fun and easy decorations to help you have the best dressed tree in town. VIC'T'ORIAN PAPER FANS Pleat paper into one inch folds. Fold the pleated strip in half. Tape two pleated sides together in the centre. Staple a bow to bottom and insert an ornament hook. (But don't rush out to buy hooks - fans will sit nicely on the branches without them. NOTE: Pleating is great for developing hand -eye co-ordination. (/) (2) CHRISTMAS BIRD Cut simple shape for bird's body from cardboard. Slip a pleated strip of paper (see fans) into the slit, then unpleat it and it's ready to nest in your tree. NOTE: Suspend a bird over the Christ- mas dinner table in the Swedish tradition to bring good luck to the household. especially if the traditionally non -participat- ing parent (like dad) cooks the dinner this year!
