The Knit -a -Mitten campaign Is part of Huron County's Family and Children Services Christmas Bureau. Christmas bureau helps needy families in Huron The upper level of the Seaforth town hall has looked like Santa's Village since the Huron County Family and Children's Ser- vices set up Its Seaforth Christmas Bureau last week, With the help of the Seaforth Lioness Club, the Seaforth Junior Farmers and a number of volunteers, toys and clothes and other goods nave been collected to be dispersed at a later date to needy families. The Huron County Family and Children Services has a bureau in each of the five towns, including Clinton, Exeter, Goderich, Winghum and Seaforth. Families in need are referred to the bureau closest to them and are dealt ',with privately on a confidential basis. The Christmas bureau project is run by volunteers who try toensure that each child of needy families receives at least one new toy, clothing and two pairs of mitts for Christmas. The mitts are knit by volunteers in each community. And bureau reprctscntatives say approximately 1,000 pairs of milts are given out annually. "We give out two pairs of mittens per child because one pair soon becomes one mitt," said Peggy Rivers of the Family and Children s Services. "A lot of people work very hard and put in a lot of hours to make this project work," said Mrs. Rivers. "People are knitting all year for us. And we've found that those we've helped in the past are almost always wilting to give when they get back on their feet. They give either through donating time for -knitting. or through money donations." In Seaforth, the Lioness Club has operated the Christmas bureau for two years. and they hope to do the same next year. it's a worthwhile project and we have a Int of fun doing it." said Lioness Linda Allin. "As far as 1 know we'll probably do it again Jaraboo was a jealous elf DAVID SOONTIENS Once there was a' man his name is Santa Claus. He had little red nose and red cheecks and very big stomach. He lives at the North Pole. One day Santa and his wife were walking around his factories to see what his elves were making. Just when he turned to go to his main factory when he was grabbed and so was his wife, he yelled, "Help Help". They cried. One close by elf came to them and started to kick the kidnapper but was knocked away. When he woke up he was surrounded by his elf friends. They all started to talk at once. One elf said "Shut Up". All the elves stopped talking. The little elf sat up and told the whole story about Jar aboo. At one time Jaraboo was an elf until he was jelous because he didn't get the most important job. The little elves set off for Jaraboos castle. Once they got there they knocked on the door. Jaraboo came to the door. "What would you like". "We want Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus back." "1 don't have them." "Oh yes, you do". said the little elf. "So it's you again". Jaraboo tried to grab him but he was stopped. Once they got back Jaraboo was punished by sweeping floors for two years after lunch and supper. Condorelf rescues S.anta Claus BY BRIAN V. "Help!" "Help!" my sweetie pie husband has disappeared.
