MERRY CHRISTMAS
John Sparks, S.P.S.
Fred, the robot invades the North Pole
BY MARY LOU STE W ART
"Oh what am I going to do. It's a week
before Christmas and the elves are running
late!" Santa said with great worry.
"Don't worry dear! Everything is going to
be all right. 1 bought a robot to help make the
toys", Mrs. Claus said with great enthusi-
asm.
"A robotV '
"Yes, his 'name is Fred."
Santa sat there with a puzzled look on his
face. He had never had a robot work for him
before. "Santa, are you just going to sit
there? Why don't you go to the workshop and
see how Fred's doing with his new lob?"
Mrs. Claus suggested.
'Oh, okay, I'll go see how Fred's doing.'
Santa went to the closet to get his hat, coat
and mitts. He put on his red coat with white
fur on it. He bent down, picked up his hat and
mitts, put them on and went outside. The
wind was blowing hard and cold. Santa could
see the light from the workshop shine
brightly..He walked as -q ckly as he could
through the deep stoic?' drifts. Finally at the
door of the workshop,' anta quickly opened
the door and hopped 1 td

"What a craftsman is Fred!"
Santa slowly walked over towards the
mechanical creature and stopped at the funny
sound he heard "H -c -l -l -o -•S -a -n -t -a" Fred
said plainly.
Work was going terrifically until one day
before Christmas when....Santa heard a
bang. Santa quickly put on his boots, pulled
on his jacket and ran to the workshop where
he found piles of black smoke pouring out of
the workshop. Out came all sixteen elves
covered in black and staggering. Santa
looked very puzzled at the sight. "What
happened?" Santa asked, puzzled.
The robot blew up" Elmer the oldest elf
said.

Mrs. Claus returned the remains of Fred to
the store and got her money back.
Santa went off early that night to deliver
presents. He got home early enough to thank
the elves for helping that year before they
went back to Elves.
