ahead–be a success •• get more money. never
mind what it does to their personal
relationships, their family or their own
happiness.
Artists have been busy painting windows
with characters and scenes of the holiday
season. These with other decorated store
windows and Christmas lights aglow on the
Brussels main street and in many a home. has
given our village a festive appearance. Last
week nature added a wintery atmosphere
with snow flurries. It is nice to have a white
Christmas, but just a sparkling touch of it.
The amount of snow that fell on some
communities and in other areas in Canada
was too much. What we want, and need is
good weather conditions for travelling until
after the New Year.
The Christmas and New Year season is a
time when friends and families meet Do not
make this season a time of sadness for
yourself, your family or anyone else. If you
have parties at this time. keep a watchful eve
on guests who have to drive when they leave.
If you realize that anyone has had too much to
drifik do not ask them if they are capable of
driving. Make other arrangements for them
to get home safely. Be a responsible host or
hostess, Do not serve too much liquor. Have
coffee or some other alternative. If a guest is
impaired see that they do not drive away from
your home. It could save their life. or the lives
of others.
Do not let it bother you if at times your
young people embarrass you with telling
tales and have to be told to cut it out, and to
keep their mouths shut, We common folk are
not the only ones who have had to do that,
President Reagan has issued such an edict to
his two children. His family problem with his
son Michael became public last month. Mrs.
Reagan said in a published interview that the
president's adopted son Michael and his
father had been estranged for three years.
Reagan, tired of having his family feud aired
in public told his children to stop giving press
interviews on Reagan family problems. He
said "Don't talk". 'No more", to his son and
daughter. His order came after interviews
giving by Michael on television and print and
an interview by his daughter Maureen last
week. Family problems! Many families have
them and none like to have them broadcast to
the public. •oee0000
Some years ago a Horticultural Society was
having a plant and slip exchange at their next
meeting. They placed an announcement
about it in the classified section of the local
paper. Unfortunately it appeared in print as
"a pant and slip exchange." The typesetter
made the original mistake. The proofreader
(me) missed it. The typesetter would not
speak to me for two weeks. Nobody in town
said a word about it but the poor fellow
(typesetter) took a lot of razzing from the men
around town. 1 got a sharp 'be more careful"
from hubby with a twinkle in his eye.
