Congratulations to Agnes McBurney of
East Wawanosh Township who was the
recipient of one of the 1,984 bicentennial
medals presented by the Ontario Govern-
ment in honor of Bicentennial year.
Mrs. McBurney received her medal for
extraordinary community service at a cere-
mony in the Seaforth and District Community
Centres on Sunday. •
We are proud to have such a worthy
celebrity in our community.
COUPLE HONORED
A large crowd of well wishers attended a
social evening for Murray and Joan James in
the Belgrave WI Hall on Dec. ,7.
Twenty tables of euchre were played and
prizes were given to high lady, Mrs. Alvin
Higgins; low lady, Mrs. Jim Hunter; high
man, Bob Higgins; low man, Don Procter.
A short period of dancing followed the
euchre and prizes were given to Mr. and Mrs.
Clarence Hanna and Jam Hunter and Mrs.
Alex Nethery for spot dance winners.
Dave McIntosh congratulated Joan and
Murray on their recent marriage. Gifts and a
box of money vere presented by Donna
Higgins on behalf of friends and neighbors,
The Dec. meeting of the Belgrave WMS
was held at the home of Mrs. Hebo Siertsema
on Dec. 4.
Mrs. Joe Dunbar opened with the call to
worship and scripture was read by Ivy
Cloakey.
Rev. and Mrs. Victor Jamieson were
special guests. Rev. Jamieson gave a
Christmas message saying for the true
meaning of Christmas we should include'
those who are alone or in need.
Mrs. John Mcl3urney read a poem. "A
Message of Christmas". Mrs, Nicholson and
Mrs. Cloakey were nominated for a pro-
gramme committee.
Mrs. William Dalrymple gave two read•
ings; Mrs. Siertsema read a poem and Mrs.
Youngblut read a story of a Christmas concert
that took place years ago.
41H CLUB YEAR ENDS
Members of Blyth•Belgrave 4-H Beef Calf
Club completed another successful year at
the Huron County 4-H awards night in
Clinton on Nov 30.
Paul Coultes won the J.A. Anstett awards
for the highest score in beef clubs.
Jeff Scott was awarded the CiL trophy for
highest score in swine judging at the
judging competition. Taking top honors in
Section 1 at the Huron County Beef
Championship Show at Seaforth were first,
Paul Coultes, $200: second, Lisa Thompson,
SI 75; seventh. Steven Coultes, 550; fourteen-
th, Robert Gordon, S25.
Prizes in above section were awarded from
the Stan Jackson Memorial Fund.
The Blyth-Belgrave Beef Club also won the
R.T. Bolton and Sons trophy for champion•
ship corn exhibit in Huron County at the
Seaforth Junior Fair, they also won a 20
(sound turkey donated by the Hdron County

EUCHRE WINNERS
Twelve tables of euchre were in play at the
Wi Hall on Wednesday.
Winners were high lady. Mrs. Jardine;
novelty lady. Mrs, Les Vincent: low lady, Eva
McGill: high man. Geerge Johnston; novelty
man. Wilfred Walker; low man. Robert
Grasbv.
There will be euchre Dec. 12 at 8 p.m.
Everyone is welcome This will be the final
euchre for 1984. Euchre will commence Jan
9.
" EDGAR CHRISTMAS
Over 40 Edgar relatives gathered at the WI
Hall. Belgrave on Saturday afternoon for
their annual Christmas.
Following the smorgasbord dinner every•
one enjoyed a sing -song of Christmas carols,
Santa arrived to help unload the tree for the
children and adults.
Those present were from Petrolia. Brig -
gen. Aylmer, Tavistock, Kitchener. Blyth,
Wingham and Belgrave.
First curling
draw in
Brussels
The first draw of the Brussels Mixed
Curling league ended on Dec. 3. There were
72 curlers participating.
in first place with 52 points was the team of
Bob Alexander, Velma Locking. Howard
Hackwei and Cheryl Ryan.
Second place with 401/2 points went to Brad
Speiran, Jean Oldfield, Lynda McDonald and
Bill Aitchison.
In third place with 371/, points were Jim
Patterson, Madelene Steiss, Lyle Martin and
Julie Mitchell.
Fourth place with 36 points went to Don
McDonald, Mary Huether, Donna Bauer and
Linda Meehan.
Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse spent a
couple days last week with their sister-in-law
Mrs. Norman Stonehouse of London.

The Brussels Majestic Women's Institute
held a Dessert Euchre on Dec. 3. Approxi-
mately 30 people enjoyed a variety of
desserts.
Winners were as follows: lucky cup,• Tom
MacFarlane; high lady, Roberta Simpson;
high man, Freda Pipe (playing as a man); low
lady; Anna Cunningham; low man, Wilfred
Strickler; youngest grandchild, Iona McLean;

The Brussels Legion Branch 218 had a
turkey bingo on Friday. Turkey winners
included: Darwin Rose, Lois Whittard, Jean
McNeil, Reinhardt Bauer, Mrs. Bert Yuill,
Velma Stephenson, Helen Cardiff, Mike
McCallum, Nancy Marks, Steve Switzer,
John Simpson, Ken Moak, Bev Bentley,

In broomball action Nov. 27 Carol Hum-
phries' unassisted goal five minutes into the
second period lifted Brussels to a 1-0 triumph
ever Sparlings (Belgrave).
Sandra Morrison played a strong game in
,meeting of the Past Noble Grands Club of
Morning Star Rebekah Lodge. President
Sarah Stephenson conducted the business
and Mary Lowe read the minutes and gave
the treasurer's report.
The Jan. meeting will be held at the home
gfJean Bridge on Jan. 7. Vera Hastings and
Winnifred Edgar will be the hostesses.
After a gift exchange euchre was played.
Prizes went to Sarah Stephenson, Mary
Lou, Jean Bridge and Marguerite Craw-
ford. Lucky plate, Winnifred Edgar.
PEOPLE WE KNOW
Jessie Engel is a patient in St. Joseph's
Hospital, London.
Many local residents atten;:ed the benefit
dance in the Brussels, Morris and Grey
Community Centre on Friday night for Mr.
and Mrs. Neil Beuermann, who recently had
a house fire.
• On Nov. 23, a black band and pinning
ceremony took place in Stratford when Cathy
Sholdice graduated with a diploma in nursing
from Conestoga College. Attending from this
area were Cathy's parents Mr. and Mrs. Ken
Sholdice, brothers Doug and Don Sholdice,
Randy Fischer, Joan Cardiff, Melinda
Hamilton and Mr. and Mrs. Allan Nichol..
The weather was favorable on Saturday for
Santa Claus' annual visit. Following a variety
of floats and bands Santa Claus appeared and
gave out his usual treats to the large number
of children.
