The Kippen East Wohien's Institute
celebrated the 50th anniversary of the
founding of the Institute on Dec. 5 in
Brucefield United Church.
Guests who were former members of
Kippen East and representatives from all the
Branches of South Huron Women's Institute
numbering about 100 were registered by
Rena Caldwell and presented with a book of
"Helpful Hints by Grace Eyre and Grace
Pepper. They were entertained by Pastor
Moffat at the organ, and Mary Broadfoot at
the piano to beautiful seasonal music.
Musical numbers were presented by Joanne
Verlinde, Diana Verlinde, and Susan Lach-
nit.
Frances Kinsman gave the history of the
founding of Kippen East and related some of
the accomplishments of the branch over the
years. Delores Shapton, the President of
South Huron District Women's Institute
'gave a talk on the. work and aims of the
District. -Helen MacLean presented the
"Fust Year" members of Kippen East
Carrie Graham, Rena . Caldwell, Grace
Pepper, Grace Eyre, Dorothy Bell with a
gift Mrs. Bell was absent in Florida and
Mrs. Graham, the first President of Kippen
East in 1934 was hospitalized and unable to
be present.
The 4-H leaders, Eileen Townsend,Joyce
Wilson, Penny Savage and Margaret
Hoggarth were presented with gifts in honor
arid appreciation of their work with the 4-H
clubs.
Margaret Hoggarth played the part of a
postmistress in the early days and did an
amusing monologue of the duties she
encountered. Ruby Triebner and Rena
Caldwell gave their interpretation of saving
on Christmas presents. -
Guest speaker, Shirley Keller, a well-
known writer in the county spoke of life on
the farm in those early days and life as it has
evolved in this day and the adjustments that

The UCW general meeting far Dec. was
held Tuesday beginning with a pot luck
dinner.
Audrey Coleman and Mary Fotheringham
led in the worship called the Christmas
season. Doris Cantelon accompanied at the
piano for the hymns and carols which
interspersed the scripture passages.. Mary
read about citizens of the world.
Barbara Moffat, president, read a poem.
Jean C. Henderson read the minutes and
Marjorie Broadfoot, treasurer, reported w -
good balance. A letter from the foster child in.
Haiti was read and $2000 was given to the
stewards. Donations to the Homemakers

A Roll Call of former members was taken
and each contributed her memories of
Kippen East. Mona Alderdice conducted a
draw for lucky members. One of the gifts
was made and donated by Thea Wisch who
is holidaying in Mexico.
KIPPEN UNITED QHUR II
Pastor Don Moffat presided in the -pulpit
for the second Advent Sunday. The purple
advent candle was lit, purple standing for
repentance. Pastor Moffat's sermon was
based on "A Church That Behaves". He
reminded the congregation that people
brought up in Sunday School and Church are
seldom brought up in court.
Barbara Cooper accompanied the singing,
of the Christmas hymns on the organ.
Bulletin reminded of Dec.' 16 at 7 p.m. in
Bayfield United Church, the candlelight and
Carol Service with special music by Mollie
Cox, Don Moffat and Rob Adams.

Audrey Coleman will he the new convenor
of the Cradle Roll. Boxes of candies, cookies
and fruit cake were packed for the shut-ins of
the congregation.
ODDFELLOWS HOLD EUCHRE
The Oddfeltows held a euchre on Friday
evening. '
Winners were ladies high, Vi Haines: lone
hands, Marjorie Broadfoot; low, Grace
McClinchey; men's high, W.D. Wilson; lone
hands; Wilfred Bauman; low, Verna Glazier.
Lucky draw winners were Mrs. Jack
Henderson and Mrs. John Moffat. The next
euchre will be held on Jan. 11.
PERSONALS
Spending the weekend with Mr. and Mrs.
John Broadfoot and attending the ceremony
when bicentennial medals were given in
Seaforth on Sunday -afternoon when John
received a medal for Tuckersmith Township
were Mary Smith, Kitchener and Jean
Provost, London. Also receiving a medal for
Tuckersmith Township was Elgin Thompson.
At the Sunday morning service on Dec. 16,
the Brucefield Sunday School will conduct the
service. There will be an exchange of gifts
and sandwiches and cookies will be served.
AN ANNIVERSARY Isn't complete without a
cake. And the Kippen East WI, Brucefleld
had a cake for their 50th anniversary.

Congratulations to Brian and Sharon
Nesbitt on the birth of a daughter Kathy on
Nov. 28 in Goderich Hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Merner. Becky and
Missy of RR 2, Wallenstein were Saturday
visitors with Mr. and Mra. Carl Merner,
Sandy, Julie, Mike and Shelley.
On Sunday, Dec, 9, Anna Dolmage and her
family held their Christmas gathering at the
Foresters Hall. Those attending were Mr.

David, and Jeanne; Mr. and Mrs. Ron Oliver
and family; Mr. and Mrs, Larry Blake, Nellie

Christmas pageant held in Hensall
On Monday afternoon residents made tree
ornaments with styrofoam balls and minia-
ture marshmallows. They plan to fill the
'home with as many homemade decorations as
they can make before Christmas.
Rev. Clayton Keupfer from Zurich Menno-
nite Church led the church service Tuesday
afternoon. Elmer Potter lit the second advent
candle.
Thursday was a double feature movie day
here at Queensway. jhe first movie was
"Mystery of the Deep which explored many
stAtnge creatures of the sea. The second
movie was an animated version of the
delightful classic "A Christmas Carol",
On Friday afternoon rekidents baked some
Christmas cookies to prepare for the holiday
season.
