Toning up your heart and lungs, that's Participaction," Our society has become'failatical. Get fit quick, is what seems to be on the minds of people all over Canada. So of course, being the good Canadian i am, 1 am totally prepared to do my part, and participate. ,Every evening before I snuggle under the blankets, 1 set out my burgundy track suit, blue runners, and athletic sweatband for a morning exercise jaunt. You know, a bl isk five mile jog starts the day off right! ,My alarm screams at 6 a.m. 1 kick off the comforter, ready to greet the morning. Jumping out of bed, totally energized, 1 sprint to the window, slam it shut, then sprint to my alarm clock and turn it off. Next, it's sprint to the stereo, turn the power on, and jog right back to the led and snuggle under my comforter once again and wait for the 6:30 call. (Sometimes'I even put my jogging suit on for the trek!) Exercise, wow, it's terrific' O.K. O.K., so I'm not exactly an At candidate for the twenty minute workout..., I've resolved that much, and sure, maybe the only advantage [can derive from an exercise bike is the fact that 1 can pedal ten miles and 1 don't have to come back....But I'm not lazy! Ask Bill Cosby! Hey I walk to the T.V. to change the channel, I dash to the kitchen during commercials! And dance! I can dance 316 hours in a row, and I don't even have to tie my shoes, thanks!! But seriously folks....i do tie my shoes!! No, really, exercise is a good evil in itself. it can't hurt, right! (Obviously I have yet to experience shin splints!) Walking, swimming, toning....1 know it isn't much, but it could be. it's a start anyways, and you've got to start somewhere, It takes time, and of course, energy, But in the long run, you feel better and look better. • It's something else to do besides watching a rerun of "Three's Company" (for the thira time), and popping salty pretzels. Of course there's nothing wrong with that, but variety is the spice of life. Couldn't we all use a little variety. So, make the effort. With Christmas time (and binge -time) drawing nigh, and resolu- tions coming closer, perhaps it's a good idea to "get into•the swing of things" and walk oft that turkey, swim off the pumpkin pie, and tone away that deliciously greasy 'gravy! Don't expect to become an overnight "10", though. Try not to get discouraged. Get out there! Brutalized your body! Show no mercy on those aching muscles; ha! ha! You'll be a better person for it!! AA worthwhile BY ELIZABETH DOYEN . Alcoholics Anonymous is an organization dealing with poor, 100% drunk'people, right? Wrong! This group deals with•anyone who may be in need of help with their drinking problems. The success of f/he groups is not 100%, but they do very well. We recently had two speakers from the group at our school to talk to the grade nine classes. They had both experienced the horrors of being an alcoholic and they shared them with us freely. Through them we were able to see what is in store for us if we choose to be an alcoholic. Don't make the wrong choice. if you already have, AA will help you. "One girl even said h would teach them to give instead of receive— Though Though Mrs. Dale made the suggestion to her team, it was up to the team to decide on the change in plan. And it was unanimous, And because of that decision, -the Christmas bureau in Seaforth, which is sponsored by the Lioness Club, will be receiving an extra 15 presents. "I think we will do it again, but it's up to the team," says Mrs. Dale. ' SPORTS REPORTER VISITS S.P.S.
