Huron County held its first Christmas arty for foster families, Saturday in Brucgfield. They hope to make it an annual event. Reorganizes{ one year ago the FPA is open to all foster parents in the county and is an organization where parents can offer support and encouragement to each other, through workshops, discussions and general meet- ings. All foster parents are sent a monthly newsletter in which they may voice their concerns and ideas. This newsletter also keeps them informed about workshops, meetings and seminars that they may attend. At present there are just over 50 homes providing needed care to children. This year the FPA annnanred a canoe race on the Maitland River from Wingham to the Wawanosh Conservation Area. This is an annual event that will be held each May, the Saturday before Mother's Day to raise funds for the group. The FPA says it is because of the support of the people in Huron County that the race and other fundraisers that Santa, his elves and clowns were able to present a gift to each oD the, 80 children who attended the party Saturday. A Christmas sing song and dance numbers by the "Brophy Girls" of Lucknow put everyone in a festive mood. ' A potluck supper and fell' wship was, shared' by all. Usually, In a car, there is a beeping sound that is supposed to remind you to put your seat belt on. Listen to this, it's not just another sound, a car makes. You should get into the habit of just putting on your seat belt. it only takes a minute to put it on. And that could be a very valuable minute in your life. Some people think seatbelts are just a nuisance, but they aren't. If you have a •small chi d, make sure you get the proper car seat for your young one to ride in. After all you want to make sure they get all the life they can. Don't hang onto your child. You may think that you can hang on to your child but the impact of a car crash will draw the child from your arms. It's not a waste of time, it just takes a little "click" and your seatbelt is on. You should have your car serviced every once and awhile to keep your car in good shape. So then you hopefully won't need your seatbelts. `• So remember that one minute it takes to do up your seatbelt could save your life. Don't take any chances, put those seatbelts on. Judges also selected 44 students at Gananoque Secondary School as a group recipient for their exemplary service in aiding a student with cerebral palsy for the• past three years; and the entire 1600 -mem - Ther student body at Clarkson Secondary School in Mississauga for raising $75,000 to pay medical expenses fo{,a fellow student who was shot and paralyzed in a milk store holdup. Each school will be visited by Junior Citizen officials and presented with a citation plus a pair of CP Air tickets, which can be used as prizes in a student -ran lottery which will help raise funds for the school's favorite cause.
