Christmas season in Hensall

The Hensall District Horticultural Society
met recently at the Hensall Public School.
This being the Christmas meeting, Rob
Gackstetter sang two solos and Belva Fuss
accompanied at the piano.
The society's annual meeting will be held
Jan, 23 at, Hensall United Church.
A profit of $75.85 was made at the
community flea market. Donated plants from
the sale were used for prizes. Dan and Joyce
McGlinchey donated plants that were part of
a draw,
This oast summer Bill Gibson completed a
flower judging course and is now a credited
floral judge. He was also chosen to receive
the' bicentennial award.
Guest speaker, Thea Wisch demonstrated
a traditional .Christmas centre common in
Germany, A melody of old songs Were played
by Dorothy Mickle. Velma Robinson conduct-
ed the draws. Cathy Mann closed the meeting
with a poem "Christmas Prayer".
PERSONALS
The Hay Township Mystery Bingo, Nov. 29
at the Zurich Community Centre was won by
Iva Reid, Hensall. She won the $500 jackpot.
The Three Links Seniors will hold their
annual Christmas dinner on Dec. 11 at 6:30
p.m. The turkey and vegetables will be
supplied and members are requested to
supply desserts, etc.
The Hensall Cubs 'and Beavers went to
Zurich bowling lanes Thursday. They were
, escorted by their leaders Marg Clarke,
Joanne Willem, Kay Gardiner, Tammy
Preszcator and several parents assisted.
Mrs. Leonard Noakes spent a few days with
her son and daughter-in-law Mr. and Mrs.
John Noakes in London and attended the
funeral of her friend Irene Douglas on Friday.
BANTAMS WINS 9.2
The Hensall bantams hosted Exeter in an
exhibition game Nov. 28.
Rob Wareing stopped all biit two shots in
the 9;2 win. The defense worked hard with
Rob Taylor scoring •two goals and Shawn
Vanstone assisting on two others. The other
sharpshooters were Brian Moir with a hat
trick and two assists, Jim Dickins, two goals,
three assists: Chris Camobell and John
Rooseboom with one goal each.
The next game will be in Hensall Dec. 5
when Huron Park visits.
YOUTH FOR CHRIST
South Huron Youth for Christ held their
Dec. rally on Saturday night at he Brucefield
school. Five teams were quizzed on Psalms
122 and 123. The results were: Zurich first;
Bayfield and Exeter tied; Huron Park, fourth;
Seaforth, fifth.
The Winter Camp will be at Devalan, New
York in Feb. There are a. good number
planning on going. If anyone wishes to go,
contact Ron Westlake, Bayfield.
A singing group from London called
"Rejoice " put on the entire program
following the quiz. They accompanied
themselves with guitar, piano, tambourine,
bells, drums and other small instruments.
The Jan. rally will be on Jan. 5 at theschool
with a London Group called, "Paradise
Players". This group attended the Olympics
at Los Angeles this summer. This program
will be dramatized. If you want a real night of
Christian fellowship be sure to attend.
CHURCH SERVICE
Rev. Kenneth Knight conducted worship
at Carmel Presbyterian Church on Sunday.
His subject was "Watch".
Dorothy Taylor presided at the organ and
led the choir in the service of song.
The Sacrament of Holy Communion will be
dispensed at the service Dec. 9 at 10 a.m.
QUEENSWAY NEWS
On Monday afternoon, several ladies from
the Bethel Reformed Church came in to play
bingo. They also led residents in -a sing -song
with Bill Gibson at the piano.
On Tuesday afternoon church service was
held. The minister was unavailable so
residents listened to scripture reading and
sang Christmas carols. Louise Mitchell lit the
first advent candle.
Thursday afternoon, birthdays of members
were celebrated with a party. Birthday people
were Louis Paie and May Westlake. Mary
Roobol helped serve cake and ice cream.
Friday afternoon, residents hosted a party
for all volunteers who come to Queensway,
Master of ceremonies was Beth Jantzi. The
first item on the program was the story of the
Three Little Pigs starring Rev. Stan McDon-
ald as the wolf; Coby Amsing as Dinky; David
Kyle as Boinky and Shirley Luther as Snout.
Ann $oersma supplied the sound effects.
Lloyd McDougall whistled the tune "Nellie
Gray" and Coby Amoraal played guitar and

sang several songs. Beth Jantzi presented
volunteers with a carnation. The presentation
was assisted by Nancy Phillips, Sheila
Corbett, Neil Regan, Jack Lowe, Mary
Parlmer, Muriel Gunning. George Mathonia,
Jim Young and Ivan Norris set toes tapping as
they entertained with the accordian, violin
and banjo.
UNITED CHURCH NEWS
Advent Communion was held in the
Hensall United Church on Sunday morning.
Evelyn Eder and Kay Mock assisted the
minister in the communion service and elders
Serving communion were Bill Bailey, Lorretta
Riley, Dorothy Corbett, John Rowcliffe,
Donald Stebbins, Hilda Payne, Dorothy
Brinthell and Sheila Corbett.
Sharon Wurm greeted the congregation
and Pauline Bell, Joanne Moir, Sherry
Dayman and Sttarr Jesney were the ushers.
Mr. McDonald spoke on the subject of "Sent
With Good News",
Douglas Klopp was organist for the service
and the senior choir led in the ministry of
music.
Next Sunday will be the annual White Gift
and Pageant Service with 52 children
presenting the Christmas story through
word, music and actions.
The community is also asked to receive and
listen for the children from the Sunday School
as they go out caroling next Sunday evening
at 6 p.m.
Advent candle

IUPPEN UNITED CHURCH NEWS
Pastor Don M'bffat presided in the pulpit of
St. Andrew's, Kippen on Sunday.
MaryrMoffatt accompanied the choir who
sang ' Light The Candle."
The lighting of the white Advent candle
was observed. White represents the colour of
purity and perfection. -
Pastor Moffat's sermon was entitled, "For
the Person Who Has Everything."
Mike Dunham of Waterdown near Hamil-
ton, Ontario, spent the weekend with Paul
Hoggarth and family.

score in the snowmobile club; Brenda
Hackett, RR 3, Lucknow, had the highest
score in the 4-H farm safety club; Craig
McNeil, RR 6, Goderich, had second highest
score in the senior dairy management club;
Anita Bos of RR 2, Seaforth, and Anita Wilts,
RR 1, Auburn won the 4-H press reporter
competition; Murray Townsend, RR 4,
Seaforth had the championship 4-H gate sign
exhibit.
Judgingtrophies and awards were won by:

judge; Karen Mchechhel, Wroxeter, highest •
score in judging; Jeff Scott, RR 1, Belgrave,

Central Huron Swine club won the award
for championship 4-H educational display:
Blyth-Belgrave Beef Calf Club had the
championship corn exhibit; Kippfield Calf
Club had championship white bean exhibit
and Huron Sheep Club, the championship
grain exhibit.
Several 4-H award certificates were
presented to Don Dodds of Seaforth and Allan
Haugh of Brucefield for 25 years voluntary
service as club leaders; Rob Hern of
Woodham and Harry Winkel of Fordwich for

Mewhinhey. Lucknow and Ron Shelley,
Gorrie, for 10 years; and Les Falconer,
