Fact finder appo
The Education Relations Commission has
appointed Mr. Emerson Lavender of Burling-
ton to act as Fact Finder in the negotiations
between the Elementary teachers and the
trustees oof the Huron County Board of
Education.
Mr. Lavender will meet with the parties
and write a report setting out which matters
have been agreed upon and which matters
remain in dispute. The report may also
contain recommendations for settlement.
Mr. Lavender, a retired educator whose
career path included positions as teacher.

Mediator. appointed for Perth secondary schools...
A mediator has been appointed by the
Education Relations Commission to help
bring about a settlement `between the Perth.
County Board of Education and its secondary
school teachers.
Ton( Crossman has been appointed as
mediator effective Nov. 5. He is in the process
of arranging a meeting between himself,. the
board and teachers.
His appointment follows the release last
week of the fact finder's report submitted by
Graeme McKechnie.
Egmondville Fitness Fans;
complete 1600 metre run.
1f you happened to be driving through
Egmondvillee on Wednesday evening, Nov.
7, you may have seen more people than
usual out jogging. The joggers were
members of the Egmondville Fitness Fans '
completing their 1600 metre run, one of the
requirements for the 4-H Fitness Fare Club.
Members met at the home of Barb
Caldwell for their final regular meeting.
They prepared for their run with a series pf
warm-up exercises, and upon completion of
the ,run they returned to Barb's for
cool -down, exercises and the remainder of

However it isn't a young woman who has
attracted this young man, rather it's been a
delicacy known as peanut butter.
There is no peanut butter in France, and for
16 -year-old Pierre Grignon of Nerdhouse,
France, discovering peanut butt in Canada
has been like finding the prover ial pot of
gold at the end of the rainbow.`
• Pierre is in Huron County, staying with the
Warren Robinson family of Goderich. Mr.
, Robinson is the English co-ordinator for the
Huron County Board of Education.
The young Frenchman and three young
women from Quebec were introduced to the
board of education at its Oct. session by
French co-ordinator Damien Solomon.
All four students are here as exchange
students for three months. At the end of the
three months, the host students will visit
their exchange partners homes. In Pierre's
case, 16 -year-old Baird Robinson will be
visiting France.

conflict resolution and organizational effec-
tiveness.
Mr. Layender,,agraduate .of the University
o1; Toronto (.Honours, History) has served as
an assistant fact finder.
This appointment is made under Section 14
of the School Boards and Teachers Collective
Negotiations Act, Revised Statutes of Ontar-
io. 1980;
RECIPE OF THE WEEK
APPLE CHEESE ili)PERATRICE
6 Red Delicious Apples
' cup Long grain rice
3 cups whole milk
4 egg yolks cream 2 tbsp, cheese
2 tbsp, heavy cream
6 wedges Camembert cheese
Sugar
1 Lemon, juice of
in medium saucepan soak rice in hot water
to cover for 30 minutes; drain. Add milk; cook
covered for 30minutes until rice is tender but
not mushy, Beat egg yolks until light and
foamy; fold into rice. Combine cream cheese
and cream; gently combine with rice. Taste;
add a little sugar if desired. Cook rice mixture'
over low heat 1 minute to set yolks. Spoon rice
into greased 5 cup mold. Let stand until
mixture takes the shape of the mold.
Turn out onto r} serving platter.
Cut apples into wedges, core and toss with
lemon juice and a little sugar. Arrange apple
wedges on top of rice alternating with wedges
of cheese. Makes 6 to 8 servings.

Pierre has had no difficult s th English. He
has taken English since he was 12 years old,
only four years, yet .h`h command of the
language is very good, said Mr. Robinson and
Mr. Solomon.
He said there was little difficulty in
understanding the young women from
Quebec, although he noted the accents are
different. The three high school students said
they found no difficulty in understanding
Pierre as they quickly reverted to their
mother tongue.
Mr. Solomon told trustees that students
from F.E. Madill have been involved in
similar exchanges for about three years and
this is the first year for Central Huron
students. He said that last year, about 20
students from South Huron District High
School in Exeter were in Chicoutimi, Que.
the meeting. The lesson involved discussing
the impact of women in sports. '
Members also completed a test for
flexibility, and talked about food and 'fitness
because it is true - "you • are what- you .eat".
They evaluated their fitness meet, which
was held on Nov. 4 when the club went
bowling at the Seaforth Bowling Alley.
Members completed the meeting by
discussing what is required for their
Achievement Night to beheld Dec. 3r11 at
the Stanley Township Hall in Varna.

reaching a settlement. He noted if there is no
settlement between a teacher, group and its
school board by Sept. 1 of any year, the,
Education Relations Commission automatic-
ally appoints a fact finder.
A spokesman for the teachers Said the maul
issues fall under the sick, leave credit gratuity' '
plan and federation business.
According to the fact finder report, 'idle . .
teachers propose that should a teacher die in
service or otherwise, any gratuity unpaid:but±
accrued, be paid to the estate. The Boars(;?
argues that the gratuity is not a death benefit; S
but a retirethent benefit." K
On the' federation business, the teachers
would like tb see the branch affiliate officer's
(Mr. Robins) position be included in the,; j
collective agreement. Now it is approved
annually by the board.
Superintendent of education Adam Stech yr
said the board "is very much open tolji
negotiations". •
He expects t:tture negotiations between . 3
the two parties to be based on the fact finder's d
report.
