The trial of Dr. Henry Morgentaler was
briefly discussed at the Wingham Pro -Life
meeting this month. It was felt' that Dr.
Morgentaler is guilty of having "conspired
to procure an abortion," the official charge
against him.
The judge, as was pointed out at the
meeting, has instructed the jurors to
consider whether the law as such had been
broken. He also pointed out that the law
itself 'was not on trial. Furthermore,
according to the judge, the usual justifica-

deplore the fact that Canada's anti -abortion
laws, by which such clinics are prohibited,
are so easily flaunted. Abortions may be
performed at present, but only in accredited
hospitals, and then only when a committee
of physicians approves. Even so, it does not
seem difficult to get an abortion in Canada,
as Statistics Canada reports that there are at
(east 65,000 (registered) abortions per year
in this country.
