Custodians vote in favor, board has yet to vote (Continued from page A7) 80 affected employees voted Wednesday to accept the tentative agreement. Director of education Paul Sherratt said the board will vote on the agreement at its next meeting on Nov. 6. He termed the settlement as "good news". Mr. Crocker said the major hold out on a settlement at an earlier time was the question of job security. The new contract keeps previous provi- sions and adds one that gives the union the right to be consulted if the board decides to contract out maintenance work. Of the board's 31 schools, 14 now have their maintenance work contracted out. The union has no problem with the money aspect of the settlement said Mr. Crocke}. The one-year agreement gives a 47 cent an hour increase across the board to both part and full-time workers and an extra 25 cents an hour for skilled maintenance workers. The average hourly rate in the previous agree- ment was $9.02. The union chairman said the local did not want to face the situation which occurred with the elementary teachers which had the teachers voting in favor of a tentative agreement while the board turned it down. He said two trustees, negotiating commit- tee chairman Barbara Herman and Paul Parlee have signed the tenative agreement. "I think there is no risk of the board not accepting the agreement with the signa- tures," said Mr. Crocker.
