Would it not be better if government's
were run in a businesslike manner? Of
course, personalities and egos would get in
the way.

The Canada Cup is where it should be, here
at home in Canada. Team Canada didn't
coast to an easy victory over Sweden as
seemed likely with the 4-1 score at the end of
the first period. Sweden came on strong in the
next two periods, scoring three goals in the
second and one in the third. Team Canada
(known as an 'offensive rather than a
defensive team) with the taste of champagne
from the Canada Cup already, teasing their
taste buds, would not be denied that
pleasure. They played tough defensive
hockey in the last 18 minutes of the game for a
6-5 victory.
-Mulroney has delighted thh Women's
Groups of Canada. The ladies had said they
expected him to have three or four women in
his cabinet. He named six women, some of
them to important ministerial posts, taking a
first step in his campaign promise of equality
for women, It seems he was well aware of the
wrath of women,

Many will remember Peter Falk, the actor
who was the star of "Columbo" for which he
won an Emmy in 1972. Here is a story he told
about himself some years ago. When three
years old he lost his right eye in surgery. He
was sensitive about it all through childhood.
He said, "I got over my sensitivity all at once.
As a teenager I was playing in a softball
game. The umpire called me out on a slide to
third, base when 1 was safe by a'mile. 1 was so
enraged 1 picked out my glass eye and handed
it to him in front of everyone. 1 haven't been
sensitive about it since then."

The recent deaths of policemen. killed
while on duty, has brought loud and angry
demands for the reinstatement of the death
penalty. Some arguments for the executiowt of
those who commit murder are valid and
easily understood. Is the death penalty really
a deterent? It is doubted that it is. Many
murders are committed by disturbed, un-
balanced people, others in the heat of
passion. Will they stop and consider that
their crime may mean death to them? Not
likely. Then there are those who deliberately
plan to murder and then do it. If they are
determined to kill, will the threat of death
stop them? It is not believed it would. The
thought of executing anyone is abhorent. The
death penalty seems morally wrong, But

for in kind --a life for a life. There are people
who think so. We must all decide for
ourselves for it is almost certain Canadians
will be called on to make a decision on capital
