Cancer run a failure
Seaforth's fourth annual Terry Fox run
was a dismal failure as only one person
showed up for the event.
Rainy weather could have been a reason
for the poor showing, but Recreation
Director Bryan Peter, said the run has been
attracting fewer and fewer people each year.
In 1983 only four people showed up for the
run. •
"It (the weather) probablf had something
to do with it but you'd thitik if people had
intended on running and had collected
pledges they'd have shown up," Mr. Peter
said.
"We thought we had everything covered
regarding advertising and letting the public
know about the run, but it's like pulling
teeth to get them out and running," he said.
Mr. Peter said that the recreation boird
hasn't given upon the run. "At this time we
intend to give the run one last shot and see
what happens. But we're going to have to
continue to do something to get a turnout."
Mr. Peter said the recreation department
may try to arrange /something with the
schools in conjunction with the fall fair next
year.
Les Habkirk, the only person to run this
year's course, raised $286 in pledges for the
Canadian Cancer Society.
Ken and Nancy Larone walked the course
later in the day and made a pledge at the
bank.
"People have been quick to forget," said
Bob Dinsmore, a member of the recreation
board,

picked up her fourth win of the year from 14
starts and took a new 2,06.2 record with Ross
Battin on the bike.
The five-year-old mare by Scram-Alexene
Hi has also been second three times. John
Muir won the tenth itt 2.05.3 driving
Highland Ovation for Gerald Schenk of
Crediton and this gave him a one point lead
over Ross Battin for the most wins during
the Clinton meet with 15.
John received the Molsons Travelling Bag
and $50.
