Queensway residents move into new wing

Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Noakes have
returned from a pleasant vacation in Eastern
Ontario. They visited with many relatives and
friends in Maberly, Perth, Westport, Mill-
brook and Orino.
They went on the cruise through the
Thousand islands, visited Fort Henry and
went on the guided tour through the fort.
They spent a day or two visiting in and around
Plum Hollow and Lake Aloyda and Smith
Falls,
The Hensall District Horticultural Society
will commence their fall meetings on
Monday, Sept. 10 at Hensall Public School.
Jean Wilson and sister of Caledonia visited•
last week with Mr. and Mrs, John Pepper and
called on Alma Horton.
Amber Rebekah Lodge will commence
their fall meetings on Wednesday, Sept.. 5 at
8 p.m.
Gerald Flynn and Evelyn Flynn visited on
Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Bill O'Brien and
family at Brigden. Mrs. Flynn will spend a
few days holidayingwith the O'Briens.
The Three Links eniors will meet on Sept.
11 at 6:30p.m. for a pot -luck dinner, followed
by their fall meeting when the officers will be
installed.

The Huron County Poultry Club held their
Achievement Day at the Hayfield Fair on
Saturday.
Commercial and Fancy members brought
their eggs or birds to be judged. All members
did very well and looked forward to next
year's club.
On Sunday, the Huron County Poultry Club
wrapped up their club year with their fourth
annual picnic held at the home of leader Barry
Cleave.
All club members were present along with
guests Tim Mayhew,- Gayle Harrison,
Cherryl Smith, Mike Heykoop, David Pullen
and Karen Rodman from the O.M.A.F.
office.
PERSONALS
Tara Savage, daughter of Mark and Penny
Savage recently returned from a week at
Quanahar Provincial Ringette camp in
Haliburton. While there, apart from learning
about the game of ringette, Tara enjoyed the
sports of kayaking, canoeing and windsurf-
ing.
Mark and Penny Savage and sons Andrew
and Aaron spent last week at Jay Lake
campgrounds near Minden. They enjoyed a
canoeing trip in Algonquin Park as well as a
visit to Mark's parents Audrey and Stan
Savage in ingoldsby. While on their trip they
had the misfortune to hit a deer north of
Bancraft which caused minor damage to their
'Al and Margaret Hoggarth accompanied
by Al's mother Ruby Hoggarth of Zurich,
attended the Greene Picnic on Sunday at St.
Christopher's Beach, Goderich.

Goderich means

Agriculture Minister Ralph Ferguson
announced recently on behalf of Transport
Minister Lloyd Axwnrthv that new cconomn
opportunities will open up for the transporta-
tion of salt and other commodities with a 51
million development project at the Port of
Goderich on Lake Huron.
The minister said a dredging and construe•
tion program will he getting under way which
will enable large lake vessels as well as ocean
going freighters to use the new facilities
without the hindrrnrr of present draft

"Providing the Pori of Goderich with the
same depth as the Si, Lawrence Seaway will
certainly enelut age future regional industrial

Work involves reconstructing he existing
wharf. construction of a breakwater and a
new wharf. as well a, dredgirg to pmvidc
seaway depth at both sharves.
The minister said while contracts have not
yet been awarded. the bidding process
should begin in about a month. ( onstrudion
and dredging will be done in phases between
now and 19tt6-8'
The port has potential for future new
commodity flows such as industrial chemi-
cals. alfalfa pellets and synthetic fuel The

Achilles Memorial Trophy as "A" champs.
PERSONALS
A reception and dance was held Friday
evening at Family Paradise to honor Carol
and Rodger Humprhies, recent newlyweds.
Best wishes were read by Bill Shortreed and
presented them with an envelope of money
from their friends. neighbors and relatives.
Recent visitors with Nelson and Annie Reld
were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Griffith, Mr. and Mrs.
Bob Machan and Mrs. Laura Machan all of
Sarnia.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hackwell spent a
weekend recently with Mr. and Mrs. Barry
Marshall of Corunna.
Church service resumes' this Sunday at
Duffs United at 10:30 a.m. Guest minister
The Rev. D.L. Howlett. Sunday school
reconvenes the same day.
with her mother, Mrs. Janeth Sangster and
family.
An evening was spent at the, home of
Dorothy Corbett on Tuesday of last week
when several friends of Mrs. Don Ridley,
gathered to honor her on her departure from
Elizabeth Courts.
The Ridley's were one of the first tenants in
Elizabeth Courts, making many friends. They
are taking up residence in Exeter in
September, we wish them the best.
A dinner was enjoyed by over 20 residents
on Thursday evening at the Northcrest
Home.
Bonnie Finlayson, Walton visited with her
grandmother, Irene Finlayson.
Jessie Armstrong attended a family
gathering at the home of her daughter and
son-in-law Mr. and Mrs, Don Flear, Grand
Bend,rior to .her grandson and wife Scott
and Monique who are leaving to take up
residence in North Bay.
Shaw and Chad Chipchase, Clinton spent a
day with their grandparents Erni and Olga
Chi?chase and enjoyed a round of golf.
Mrs, J. [`nogg, Stratford visited for a few
clays with Mr. and Mrs. McKnight and also
with Mr. and Mrs. Craig, Jean Wilson and
sister of Caledonia visited with Mr. and Mrs.
John Pepper.
QiUEENSWAY NEWS
On Tuesday a picnic to the Morrison Dam
Park near Exeter was enjoyed by the
residents. In the evening the Lakeview
Conservative Youth were in to sing for the
residents.
Moving in to the new wing continued this
week. We are dining in the new dining room,
and making use of both the activity room and
beauty salon.
Thursday morning the residents cele-
brated the grand opening of the activity room
with a swing bowling and erokinole tourna-
ment. A movie was shown in the afternoon
which rounded off another active. day.
The pace was slowed on Friday as the
residents spent a quiet relaxing day reading
books on loan from the library and taking
walks in the sunshine.
Robert Gackstetter was the soloist at the
United Church on Sunday morning and led in
the worship of music. '
Mr. McDonald spoke on the subject of "Al
This Pain and Suffering. It Doesn't Seem
Right".
The ushers for the service were Doug Kyle
and Al Corbett.
The couples club enjoyed dinner -theatre on
Thursday evening when dinner was enjoyed
at the Manse with Sharon and Doug Kyle and
Stan McDonald as hosts, Followibg dinner
the group enjoyed "Country Hearts" at the
Blyth Theatre, The next couples club meeting
will be held on Thursday, Sept. 27.
GOLD MEDALISTS—Chris McDonald, Len
Healy and Dana Kloss, all of Brucefleld and
Karen Cowan of Brussels were winners In
the National Marathon Canoe races held

BOWLING IN THE RAIN—The weather was
awful but the lawnbowlers were keen at the
lawnbowling tournament In Seaforth last
week June ,'.onion, of London came
prepared with a garbage bag end umbrella.
