Reminders of our history will soon be erected at both the east and west ends of Seaforth. Seaforth council approved the purchase of four signs marking the Huron Road and its opening in 1828. The signs are the design of the Kitchener LACAC group and are being offered to municipalities along the Huron Road now named Highway 8 from Kitchener to Goderich. The artwork on the signs is gold on navy blue background with the name and date of the opening of the road and the head and shoulder silhouette of the three key figures, instrumental in the settlement of the area; John Galt, founder of the Canada Company which charted and sold the land in the Huron Tract; Tiger Dunlop, Warden of the Forest, who Cut through the forest laying -down the first road and Col. Anthony Van Egmond, who improved the road to help speed up colonization of the area. The Kitchener LACAC group is also preparing a pamphlet to assist tourists in following the Huron Road and relating some of the history behind it. Walter Armes, member of the Seaforth LACAC, said the group. hopes other municipalities will put up the Huron Road signs and then get together and publish a similar pamphlet for this area. The signs cost $73.12 for four (front and back mountings for the two sign posts) and will be erected mid September. Justice minister visits Huron -Bruce Justice minister Donald Johnston has not seen the results of polls reflected in people's attitudes in his tours across Canada. The man who attained national attention by being the "third man" in the Liberal leadership convention stopped for a brief visit in Goderich on Aug. 22. He and an`entourage of aides landed at Goderich airport and were met by Huron - Bruce Liberal candidate Bruce McDonald and party faithfuls Howard Aitken and Jean Adams of Goderich and Jack Horan of Dublin. The group headed for the Bedford Hotel on The Square in Goderich to be met by about 30 Liberal party workers. Mr. Johnston, appointed justice minister in the John Turner 4overnment, said the Progressive Conservatives under Brian Mul- roney "may have peaked too soon" in this campaign and the Liberal will yet come out victorious. He said he hasn't seen the Tory lead reflected in polls in his tours across Canada. Mr. Johnston admitted that the Liberals have made some mistakes in government, but "we've done a lot that we can be proud of." The itinerary for the federal minister for the day was to have included a flight to Kincardine, But, Mr. Johnston had to cut short his Goderich visit in order to travel by car to Kincardine, because fog was rolling in. t SUNSHINE HOT DOG OR HAMBURG ROLLS PKG. To pay little or no attention is not only rude but shows a lack of refinement. **sr** Robots are taking over. Now they're going to help us drive cars. A Japanese motor company have said that in one month they will introduce a car with manual transmission in which a robot will work the clutch and shift gears. It sounds as if they think car drivers do not only not want to walk but are also so lazy they do not want to bother shifting gears or operate the clutch. Would it not be better to have a robot in charge of speed, to keep within the legal limit. With that kind of robot control we wouldn't have so many reckless speed maniacs on the highways. rrrr** We daily hear and read, of sexual abuse that are horrifying. A federal study has come up with an estimate that half of all females and one-third of all males have at some time in their lives been the victims of sexual abuse. What makes it worse is they were victims of these acts when they were children. This abuse comes not always from strangers but is more often from a trusted person who is close BACHERT MEATS 'Try our own smoked pork chops for the bar -b -q season' CUSTOM KILLING, FREEZING / Cutting & Wrapping ,FIKILL DAY ON TUESDAY All meat Gov't. inspected on the farm 1 MILE EAST OF W ALTON 88749328 Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada LIFE AND MORTGAGE INSURANCE PLANS, DEFERRED ANNUITIES INCOME TAX DEDUCTIBLE FLEXIBLE NO LOAD-R.R.S.P. Most recover with little or no medical treatment. Dr. Hamilton Hall, assistant professor at the University of Toronto said, "Spontaneous recovery is the rule rather than the exception." A professor of orthopedic surgery said, "Just because you have low back pain doesn't mean you have to run to someone to make you better." It is nice to know that the pain will go away without treatment. But, it does not make it any less bothersome or easier to contend with.
