Games for August
RECREATION PREVIEW

SENIOR GAMES are starting today with
checkers and lawn bowling taking place; Next
Wednesday, Aug, 22 will have shuffleboard
and contract bridge taking place at the arena.
Golf and horseshoes are being planned for
Wednesday, Aug. 29 at the Golf Course. You
may register by calling the Recreation Office
at 527-0882.
These games are being held to promote
new and different activities for men and
women 65 years of age and over. They are a
good opportunity to enjoy yourself and start a
new activity at the same time, MI events
begin at 9 a. m, and a light lunch is included in
the registration fee. Come out and participate
and bring a friend or neighbor.'
MINOR BASEBALL BBQ AND GRAND
FINALE is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 25 at
the Seaforth Lions Park. All teams will be
playing during the day and a Pork Chop
Barbecue will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tickets are
available from Minor Baseball players for the
barbecue.
TERRY FOX RUN will again be hosted in
Seaforth as part of the National program. The
run will be held Sunday, Sept. 23 from 9 k.rn.
to noon starting and finishing at the Van
Egmond house. Pledge sheets are available
at the Town Hall and the Recreation Office.
Terry Fox's Marathon of Hope is not over.
In fact, it is just beginning. Canadians all
across the country are invited to join together
to participate in the Terry Fax Fun for the
Marathon of Hope. Run, walk or jog the 10
kilometre course being set up .at Seaforth.
A JOINT INFORMATION/REGISTRA-
TiON NIGHT will be held Wednesday, Sept.
26 and Thursday, Sept. 27 from 7 to 9 p.m. at
the Seaforth and District Community Cen-
tres. Groups that huxe confirmed their
participation in this night are the Boy Scouts,
the Curling Club, Minor Hockey, Figure
Skating and the Recreation Department.
These will be joined by other groups as the
time draws closer, Reserve these dates and
plan to attend.
Industrial ball league
In the Men's Industrial Ball League on
Aug. 8, the early game saw the Turf Club 9
to 8 over the $ears.
The late game finished with the Villagers

On Aug 12, in the early game Topnotch
beat the Firemen 7-3.
In the late game Mainstreet won with a
forfeit over the Creamery.
On Aug, 13, in the early game, the
Topnotch beat Mainstreet 5 to 4. For

The Lorne Dale Trophy Bowling Tourna-
ment was held last Sunday at Seaforth.
W;nners were Huron Wintermute of
London, first; Jack McDonald of Lucknow,
second; Terry Gardner of Wingham, third;
Gerry Mogeridge of London, fourth; and
Lloyd Dundas, Thamesford. fifth.
Bill Nealy of Stratford, Eric Matzold and
Jean Lunn, Seaforth, Neil and Edna Bell of
Seaforth were consolation winners,
Eileen Adamson and Esther Brady of
Seaforth came second in Lucknow last
Wednesday.

National Motocross scheduled
for Labour Day weekend
The 1984 Expert Series opener at Nulty
Gully on June 17 has been rescheduled to
!About Day, Sept. 3. Torrential rain turned
the well groomed track into a quagmire,
making it Impossible to conduct the races.
Hully Gully will now be the site of the final
round for the 125 and 250 classes. The Open
class will complete their championship series
at Copetown, Ontario on Sunday, Sept. 2.
Other rounds will take place at Kelowna.
B.L. on Aug. 12, Edmonton, Alta., Aug. 19
and Austin, Man. on Aug. 26.

Two exciting divisions of the first leg of
the Clinton-Goderich pacing series were
featured at Clinton Raceway on Aug. 1.
Merrywood Liz, owned by Bi11 Bennett of
Seaforth, won her fourth of the year from 11
starts with a 2:05.3 mile in the sixth,
Ross Battin drove the eight-year-old
Merrywood Rick mare for trainer Karen
Bennett.
John Muir of Seaforth took third with
Chancey Dodger for Dave Morrissey of Ailsa
Craig.
Mitola Hi, a five-year-old Scram-Alexene
Hi mare, owned by Joe Lane of Seaforth, won
her first of the year from 10 starts with Ross
Battin on the bike.
The second leg of the Clinton-Goderich
Pacing Series Stakes will be held at Clinton
Raceway on Aug. 19 with post -time at 1:30
p.m.
John Lester was third with Goshen Girl,
co -owned by Ken Parke of Varna in a 2:06.2
mile in the tenth.
Two pacers owned by Stewart McCall of
Seaforth were winners at Greenwood Race-
way in Toronto recently.
:timbre Dick was first in 2:00.1 on Aug. 7,
while Fergus Hanover won in I:58 on Aug.
10.
Armbro Bryan, owned by Rene Dupuis of
Seaforth, finished second in a 2:04.1 mile at
Flamboro Downs on Aug 8.
Four divisions of the Ontario Sires Stakes
for two-year-old pacing colts and geldings,
cotnpeting for total purse money of 534,168
were featured at Goderich Raceway on
Thursday night and as usual. Dave Wall
formerly of Kincardine, but now living near
Komoka was in the limelight.

Pullman's farm near Seaforth), Trulys Pride
by Skippys Pride C. paced his last half in 58.4
for a 2:01.1 winning mile, breaking the old
mark of 2:01.2 set by Derbys Gent in 1974 and
equalled by Wilivan Duke last year.
Snipper has earnings to date of 562,378 and
a 1:57.3 record from eight wins and one
second in the 12 lifetime starts.
There will be races again at Goderich
Raceway on Aug. 16, with post -time at 7:45
p.m.
