Young folk visit at Manor
On Saturday August 4, 20 residents
attended the afternoon performance of
"Cake Walk" at the Blyth Summer Theatre,
accompanied by Laverne Nigh and Ruth
Nolan.
Wednesday afternoon residents enjoyed a
visit from the young folk. Staff and their
youngsters were in for the afternoon and the
residents all had a chance to hold them and
talk to them. Each youngster was presented
with a gift, Darryl Dimaline, Atysha Crawford
Ashley Nigh and Robin McLeod.
Thursday afternoon bingo winners were
Syd Pearson x 3, Elmer Bakcsy x 2, Maxine
Elliott x2, Madge Remes, Penny Caza,
Marguerite Shiel, lIa Gardner and Doris
Smith.
After bingo a birthday party was held for
the ladies celebrating a birthday this month.
They were Doris Smith, Carol Geddes, Ila
Gardner and Ruth Noll.
Friday afternoon resident euchre was
played after a picnic barbecue on the patio,
with watermelon for dessert.
-Betty McGregor R.N. treated all the
residents to an ice cream cone, on one hot
humid day.
Ruth Noll was home over the long
weekend.
Katimavik returns to Seaforth
On Aug. 29, 12 young Canadians ages 17
to 21 will be coming to Seaforth to work, live
and learn far one dollar a day.
This will be the 10th group to volunteer
their time and manpower to Seaforth; the
culmination of four years of commitment and
co-operation between the Seaforth com-
munity and Katimavik.
This year's project* include helping out at
St. James Separate School, Seaforth Public
School as well as working for the Hulled
• Conservation Authority and Tuckersmith
Daycare in Vanastra.
This year the Seaforth Katimavik project
needs your help. Any household articles will
not be refused. As well, needed desperately
are kitchen items, furniture, books and a
large table.
If you do not have these items but have
skills or hobbies that you 'could present to
the Katimavik group this type of contribu-
tion would also be greatly appreciated.

Ria Voogel spent some time with her
grandchildren while home over the weekend.
Mary Lamont was in and visited Kelly
Lamont.
Karen Finlayson took Mac Tiffen, Hareld
Walsh and Elmer Bakcsy for a ride to
Bayfield.
Len Bloomfield took Pat Nigh and Mike and
An elia Stoll fishing at Lion* Park.
Jim Nolan's family visited.
Carol Geddes has been visited by her
husband, father, mother, sons and daughters
and their families.
Gladys Ruston was out for a drive on
Tuesday with her husband. Also had visits
from her brothers, Donald Denstedt of Elmira
and Gerald Denstedt of Toronto, and her
parents from Listowel.
Mortimer Mann had a staff member from

out fora drive,
Syd Pearson was visited by his daughter
Beverly Pearson and friend from Stratford.
Also enjoyed supper out along with Maxine
Elliott,
On Sunday Jack Moore was home for the
day with his son John.
Donna Farley, husband and girls were in to
visit her father Dr. Ernest Wilier.
Erle Dow was out for lunch with his
daughter.
Corneluis Rumig had a visit from his fathily
from Waterloo.
We welcome new resident David Netzke,
into our home. His daughter was in Sunday
and took him to see his wife who is in the
hospital. +
Residentg are looking forward to their trip
to the Africtan Liop Safari on Wednesday.
Dr. Charles and Laura Toll celebrated their
55th wedding anniversary recently at the
summer home of their daughter Jill Farrugia
and son-in-law Johh, south of Bayfield. Dr.
Toll practised dentistry in Blyth in the 1930s
and was the main push in organizing the
Blyth Band. He is still active in band work
with tfiie Seafortfi and District Band.
Mr. and Mrs. Norman Chesterfield of
"— Wheatley visited with Mona and Henry
Enzensberget on Sunday. Norm, a cousin of
Mona and grand nephew of the late Thomas
Daly is in the Guiness Book of Records as
having sighted the greatest number of birds
in the world He has bee -tile- -nearly every
country and all the continents to do this.
Dr., and Mrs. Donald Munn of Listowel
visited with James Kelley last week and he
later visited the Munn's at their cottage in
Amberley.
Roger Clement of Acapulco Mexico was a
recent guest of James Kelley and they later
visited the Wagner Estate in Douglas
Michigan.

King's wife
cook's tour
Sara Waxman, author. television personal-
ity. 'and wife of Al Waxman (the King of
Kensington), is touring rural Ontario this
summer in search of the finest in country
cooking.
As a special Bicentennial project. Mrs.
Waxman, author of The King's Wife's
Cookbook (1980), will be sampling authentic
country cuisine at restaurants. inns. and
festivals throughout the province and collect-
ing recipes for a new book tentatively entitled
Backroads and Country Cooking.
Ontario chefs, gourmets. and household
cooks are invited to submit their recipes to:
Backroads and Country Cooking, McClelland
to take
of Ontario
and Stewart Ltd., 25 Hollinger Road,
Toronto. Ontario. M40 3G2.
Selected recipes will be included in
Backroads and Country Cooking which
McClelland and Stewart will publish in the
Fall of 1985 As well as receiving acknow-

matically become contestants in the Country
Cooking contest.

As it was Civic Holiday weekend. things
were quiet on Monday. 1 shall tell you more
about our reunion later.
On Tuesday things picked . up with our
usual bingo. The winners this week were.
Oliver MacKay. Alma Nottingham and Lillian
• .inston. Congratulations to all.
'^esday was craft day. Anyone able
with needlepoint on plastic canvas. It
seemed to be a very interesting project,
We had a leisurely day on Thursday with
the choice of sitting outside, just relaxing in
our rooms. or watehing T.V.
Again we must thank Bryan Peter for
taking the time on Friday to show us the films
"Shakespeare of Stratford and London" and
"Abbott and Costello meet Dr. Jekyll and
Mr. Hyde."
Janet Farrell )nee Beattie). Mississauga.
an ex -student. came to visit me while in
Seaforth.
Some of the children of our staff cheered
the residents by visiting us on Wednesday.
Don Brightrall enjoyed a visit with his
mother this week.
Obituaries
Mr. and Mrs, Arthur Striate. Staffa and Mr.
and Mrs. Ross Smale were in to see their
mother Bessie Smale.
Joy Julian. Agincourt and Mrs. J.A.
Stewart, Seaforth. came to see me this week
Mts. Stewart brought pink roses from her
garden.
The Turnbull family reunion was held at
our family cottage ' "Schadeview•• on Sunday.
Aug. 5. This is usually a Christmas affair. but
as the roads were so very bad at that time. we
postponed it We did not miss out however.
as everyone received a gift. mine a nice
necklace. The guests came from as far as Los
Angeles. Ottawa. Kingston. Inger-col. Trll-
senburg and of conrse Seaforth. It was a good
group but a scattered representations of our
Clan.
1 am sorry to say that these will be my last
notes for a week or two as the volunteer who
helps me compile my writing will be back and
forth to her daughter and husband who are
moving to their new home in Waterloo. See
you soon.
MARK SPROAT
Mark Ross Sproat. 74. formerly of RR 4
Seaforth. Tuckersmith Township died Thurs•
day Aug. 9 at Huronyiew
Son of the late Wm. Sproat and Jennie
Robinson. he was horn in Tuckersmith
Township where he farmed and operated a
tile yard. He attended the First Presbyterian
Church.
Surviving is one sister. Isabel. of
Queensway Nursing Horne. Hensall. He was
predeceased by one sister. Clare, Mrs.
Nelson Govenlock,
Funeral services were held Monday Aug.
13 at Box Funeral Home. Seaforth with Rev.
T.A.A. Duke officiating. Interment Mait-
landbank Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Sandy Doig. Arthur
Wallace. Leonard Strong. Bob Tyndall. Bill
Leyburn and Arthur Leyburn. Flowerbearers
were Bob Archibald and Warden Haney.
LESLIE AND EMILY POLLARD
' Leslie Howard Pollard. 80. a former Ethel
resident died July 8 in Clearwater. Florida.
His wife. the former Emily Fraser. of
Stratford, also died on June 2' in Clearwater
Florida.
Mr. Pollard. the son of the late Wesle} and
Charlotte Pollard, was horn in F.rhei Hewn
a former tool and die maker in Detroit, a
member of the Crossroads Baptist Church
and a former Captain of the Salvation 'Army in
Michigan.
Mr. and Mrs. Pollard --are survived hs one
son. Howard. of Brighton Michigan and
cousin Mrs. Mervyn Pipe. of Brussels
Both funeral services and burials were held
at Sylvan Abby Memorial Park. Clearwater,
Florida.
ANNA SKINN
Anna Mildred (Fitzpatrick) Skinn. 82. of
Stratford died Saturday. Aug. 11 at the
Cambridge Hospital.
Wife of the late John Skinn. she is survived
by one son. Bervil of Kitchener. two
daughters. Helena. Mrs. Ken Partridge. of
Stratford and Gentry. Mrs Ron Ferguson. of
Cambridge. nine grandchildren and six great
grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two sisters.
Delphine Bell and Loretta Flamer -la and a
brother Bervil in infancy.
Funeral mass was celebrated at Immacu-
late Conception Church. Stratford on Tues-
day. Aug. 14. interment St. James Cemetery.
Seaforth. H'einbuck'Funeral Home, Stratford
assisted with the arrangements.
Donations to Medical Daycare c,o Cam.
bridge Memorial Hospital will be accepted as
expressions of sympathy.
