answers wanted for Seaforth questions
DT PATRICIA RiMMER
A month from now I will be living in Sarnia
where I will be going to school, Since I am
staying in residence, 1 won't have to worry
about catching buses too often. But 1 am
concerned about getting to know Sarnia.
It will probably take a long time to get to
know the best eating spots, entertainment
spots, movie theatres, and bowling alleys.
But I don't suppose I will have a lot of time.
Where do you get information about a town or
city that cannot be found in a telephone
directory? Sure, you may suggest a tourist
brochure, but such a pamphlet does not
contain the day to day information that you
may need.
Take Seaforth for example. There are a lot
of things about this town that you may or may
not know. Here are some questions. See if
you°can answer them.
How do you go about getting into one of the
many service clubs in town? If a guy wants to
get into the Minor Hockey League, who does
he contact? How many baseball teams are
there in Seaforth-and how does one get onto
a team of his/her choice?
What kind of facilities aqd clubs are
available for senior citizens in Seaforth? Who
would you' contact if you would like to start a
new organization or club in town? Would you
have to get permission to hold a gathering in
Victoria Park? Who is on town.council? Who
are the presidents of the service clubs in
town?
Thinking on a more everyday basis: which
stores in Seaforth are closed on Wednesday
and which stores are closed on Mondays?
How many hairdressers are there in Seaforth
and how many barbers are there? How many
hairdressers cut hair in their own homes?
What is the average rate of a s , cut and
style?
If someone ' oved to Seaforth and
needed a person to cut their lawn or shovel
their sidewalk, where could they find such a
person? Who would this person call if they
needed odd jobs done around their house and
didn't have time to do it themselves? When is
the public library open?' Are there any day
care facilities available in Seaforth?
It seems that all of these questions can be
answered just by word•of•moutll or by living,
here for a length of time. They may seem like
silly questions but to a newcomer, they are
very important. It is a hard adjustment to
make moving to a new town and it can be
made a lot easier if these questions are
answered.
1 guess that, is why we are lucky to live in a
Small town. People are friendly enough that
they don't mind being asked questions such
as these. If a person wants to become
involved in our community the doors are
open. If you are willing to volunteer a few
hours, there are many groups that welcome
the help.
Seaforth is called the friendly town and it
should and does live up to its reputation.
When newcomers move in to a house near
you or you come into contact with them in one
way or another.
Even if you have lived in town for a while
you may not know the answers to the
questions asked previously. In order to
answer all of. these questions correctly you
would have to go to many sources. I would
like to answer these questions in a future
column but need your help in finding all of the
correct answers. if you know the answer to at
least one of the questions asked please write
to me at Boa 278, Seaforth, Ont. NOK I WO.
Also, if there is a question that you would
like to know the answer/for please write me as
well. I will be only too glad to answer these
questions in a future column if 1 get enough
serious responses. Perhaps you have infor-°
oration that is. interesting and worthwhile
about another organization in town that 1
haven't mentioned. Please write. It could
make life a lot easier for someone new in,our
town,

Odd job squad is ready
With one month of student employment
activity left, the Goderich and Exeter
Employment Centres for Students are ready
Jfor a busy August.
Statistics for the month of July show an
/ increase of 76 per cent over last year in the
placement of students in casual jobs. Hence,
again this g . 's emphasis will be placed
on securing d jobs ' for local students.
"Odd jobs" - employment on a temporary
basis for an hour or a few days • will help
students earn each for the start of the new
school year and gain some of that all
important work experience.
Arca residents will also gain by hiring a
student, It is now August and for the last
three months you have been putting off
painting the fence, washing the windows or
cleaning the attic. Now is your chance to
ensure those jobs are done before fall.
This summer students have helped
individuals in the community move furni-
ture, paint house trim, cut grass, dig post
holes, spray cucumbers, pick strawberries,
bale hay, babysit...and the list goes on.
Students can and will do an endless variety
of tasks.
if you have a job that needs doing, please
contact the Canada Employment Centres for
Students in Goderieh 524-2744 or Exeter
235-1711. Our goal? A job to fit every
student; a student to fit every job.
Help a student by letting him help you.
Trilingual parrot featured
at Huronview pet day
Monday was 'pet day' at Huronview. Pets
were provided by staff members, but
children were there as well, and it was good
to see them handling and caring for the pets.
There were dogs, cats, white rats with
babies, a raccoon, a goat and birds,
including parrots, budgies and parakeets.
One of the parrots at age 65 years, could
sneak in French, Spanish and English. Just
of what her vocabulary consisted was hard to
say, since she wasn't in a talkative mood
when some of us were around.
it was barbecued hot dogs andinamburgs
on Tuesday noon, for all the ladies on
Ground Centre.
Wednesday was a beautiful day for a
number of residents to visit with Helen
Bradley. and enjoy a picnic lunch on the back
lawn. When Helen lived at Huronview, she
had a wonderful rep.itation for her delicious
baking. and on returning home. we thought
that was the end of it. but not so.
Helen had baked a gorgeous chocolate
cake and butter tarts. and believe me, they
