Welcome to the first editio(tof the
"Recreation Preview"..column..I hope to use
this column to lett you know all about the
recreation programs and the community
events that are taking place in the area. By
using this column, Ican provide you, the
public, with more details • concerning our
events and programs. l hope you will become.
a regular reader.
SUMMER PROGRAMS: Playschool, Play-
ground and the L.I.T. Teen Programs are all
ready to startJuly 9, These programs provide
summer activities for girls and boys ranging
in age from 3 yeark to 16 years. There is still
limited space to register so if you are
interested, please contact' the Recreation
Office.
BICENTENNIAL YOUTH, SPORTS &:
FITNESS FESTIVAL is a special program
jointly sponsored by the Recreation Depart-
ment and the Ministry of Tourism and
Recreation. The program is open'to girls and
boys ages 9,10 and 11 years of age and will be
held July 9 to'13 at the high school. There is
no registration fee and participants receive
certificates, crests and buttons for complet-
ing the program.
Ladies softball
.WEST BRANCH AND SEA FORTH
GAMES will be taking place in Seaforth July
13 to 15 this year. Plans are nearing
completion for the arrival of an estimated two
hundred particippants from our Sister City of
West Branch', Michigan. Billets arerequired
for some children; if you can be a billet,
please call the Recreation Office. A complete
schedule will appear in 'next week's paper.
LADIES FASTBALL TOURNAMENT will
be taking place Friday. July 6 and Saturday
July 7 with eight teams competing. On
Friday.' there will be a 7 p.m. game at the
Lions Park and an 8:30 p.m. game at the
Optimist • Park. On Saturday, games are
.scheduled for 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.
for the Lions Park and at 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m.,
3:30 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at the
Optimist Park. Come out and support the
local ladies. -
THE LIONS POOL is in full operation now
featuring the Business Swim from noon to 1
p.m: Mondays to Fridays. Family Swims are
held from 5 to 6 p.m. Mondays to Fridays.
Swim Lessons begin next week with the first
of four, two week sessions. Public swimming
is held 1:30 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8:30 p.m.
Mondays to Fridays and 1 to 4:30 p.m. and 6
to 8:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
K. Murray continues to win
Seaforth Ladies Recreational Softball play
continued Tuesday June 26 at 6:45 when K.
Murray and the Queens met. The score was
11-2 for K. Murray.
Hitting for that team was Rose Bisback
with a home run and 'Jessie Kipfer with a
double.
In late game action McNichols and Ken
Smith tied with 14-14.

Conservation Authority is once again hosting
its summer Canoe Regatta at the Parkhill ,
Conservation Area.

highways 7 and 81.

Clinton Raceway re -opened for the 1984
season on Sunday, June 24, after rain had
delayed things one Week earlier.
Ross Battin was second with'Armbro Bryan
for Rene Dupuis of Seaforth.
Jim Watt of Londesboro gave his Miss
Dawnglo her second win in a row and her
eighth of the year from 21 Starts. with a 2.08.4
mile in the fifth,
Ross Battin finished third with Poplar Lynn.
for Les Campbell of Seaforth.
Countella, co -owned by trainer -driver Dale
Kennedy and Gordon Dick off Seaforth, won in
her second start of the year, timed in 2.10.4
for the mile.
Goderich Racway re -opened for the 1984
season on Thursday, June 21.
-Ross Battin finished third with Joellas
Knight for Bill Bennett of Sleaforth, followed
by Randy Henry with Rustic Helene and Carl
Fisher with Handy Slipper,
John Muir of Seaforth gave Red Oak
Express. owned by Gerald Schenk of
Crediton, a new 2.06.3 pacing record in the
third.
Ross Battin drove Merrywood Liz to her
first win of the year from five starts, timed in
2.08.3 for Bill Bennett of Seaforth.
John Muir was second with Highland
Ovation fop Gerald Schenk, while Randy
McLean finished third driving Lissas Girl for
Bob and Ron Daer of Goderich,
Ross Battin was third driving Poplar Lynn
for Les Campbell of Seaforth.
Frank MacDonald finished fourth driving

Greenwood Raceway in -Toronto on June 29.

on Sunday, July 1.
Jim Watt of Londesboro won his third in a
row with his Miss Dawnglo in a 2.07.1 mile,
her fastest in 1984.
Countella, co -owned by .driver Dale Ken;
nedy and Gordon Dick of Seaforth was second
in a 2.08.1 mile, while John Muir took third
with Out All Knight for Ron Williamson and
Bruce Lamont of Seaforth.
A good afternoon was held at the
' Huronview auditorium on Tuesday June 26
when the Past Gratlds-ofEdelweiss Rebekah
Lodge honored Jean $colt's 80th birthday.
Rachel Riehl pinned a corsage on Jean and
• EdithHilleh played some of Jean's favorite
pieces'on the piano.
Ethel Boyes pinned Jean's So year jewel on
her.
Jean received many cards and gifts.
