very well attended. They put ou a very
good minstrel show. The club swinging.

ever seen in Wingham.
-The regular monthly meeting of the
Town Council will be held ou Monday
evening. The matter of submittiug by-
laws for the purchase of the electric
light plant and the putting in of water
works and sewers will come up for con
sideration.
-A number of young people of the
Methodist church choir attended au Ep-
worth League rally at Brick Church in
East W awanosh ou Monday evening. In
the number were a mixed quartette, and
also a male quartette, who assisted in
the evening's program.
-J. J. Elliott, U. S., who has not
been enjoying the best of health foi
some months past intends spending the
coming winter in Colorado. He expects
to leave Wingham about the 1st of No-
vember and his friends hope the change
may fully restore him to good health.
-The Edith Ellis Baker Co. played
"The Country Girl" in the opera house
on Monday evening. Those who attend-
ed were rather disappointed. The com-
pany may be a good one, but it would
be necessary to put on a different play
for a Wingham audience.
The Dungannon fall fair will be hold
on October 8th and 9th.
-The TIMES and Weekly Sun till Jan -
nary 1st, 1904, for 25 cents.
-W. P. ti anstone shipped a car load
of hogs to Toronto on Monday.
-The Provincial Winter Fair will be
he ld at Guelph, December 7th to llth.
-The Grand Trunk carried 21,684
passengers into London during the fair
week.
- Mr.D. Stewart,shipped a double deck
car load of lambs to Buffalo on Wednes-
day.
-The regular meeting of Camp
Caledonia, Sons of Scotland will be

-Mrs. W. Rintoul, of Patrick street
is ill with typhoid fever. Her many
friends hope for a speedy recovery.
-Mr. Hill, the new brakeman on the
L., H. & B. freight train has moved his
household effects to Wingham.
-The members of the Wingham So-
cial Club intend holding au assembly in
the town hall on Thanksgiving night.
The Times and Weekly Globe sent to

-Mrs. George C. Hanna took part in
the LaDell-Caldwell concert in White-
church on Monday evening last.
-The 'Voter's List Court for the Town-
ship of Morris will be held at Blyth, on
Monday, October 12th, at 11 o'clock
a. in.
-Teeswater Fall fair will be held on
October 7th and 8th. The directors
have secured the 48th Highlanders Pipe
Band for the occasion.
-Teachers are remainded that the
County of Huron Promotion Examina-
tions will be held on October 22nd and
23rd.
-Mrs. S. B. Fuller, of Woodstock,
judge on horses here, purchased a team
oof fine drive -g horses from Messrs. Currie
Rintoul.

share of the continuation grant to the
schools of the county.
-Brussels fall fair is being held on
Thursday and Friday of this week and
Blyth fall fair will be held on Tuesday
and Wednesday of next week.
-W. J. Scott, who had the booth
privilege at the fair grounds reports a
good day's business. . He sold over 200
baskets of fruit.
-The Eastern League baseball season
closed on Saturday, Jersey city winning
by the pennant. Toronto was within
three points of being in second place.

Death of Mrs.`Chowen.
Before the family could be summoned
to the bedside of their mother, the spark
of life which made Agnes Bartlett, be-
loved

world on Saturday, Snpt. 19th. Mr. and
Mrs. Obowen moved. to Clinton about
three years ago, and have been respected
residents of our town ever since. Mrs.
Chowen for many years has beena suf-
ferer frons stomach trouble, but added
to this she contracted a cold two years
ago which culminated in plourjsy and
finally consumption, and daring this
time she has battled hard against this
tyranny of mankind, Besides her hos-
band she leaves six boys and three girls
to mourn the loss of , a loving mother.

X. Chowon, formerly of tower, and a
niooe of Mrs. T. Bell and Miss A. Boyd,
