DECEMBER 25, 1985 — A5 Santa Claus likes to have some fun on Christmas too BY BRIAN LOVE Seaforth Public School Way up north in the land of ice and snow stands a cozy little house. Beside the front door hangs a neat little sign. "S. Claus", says the sign. Because that is who lives there Santa Claus. Mrs. Santa Claus lives there too, of course. She keeps house for Santa Claus, and for all the elves who work in Santa's toy shop. And what a busy place that toy shop is. In the doll department, the train department, and the game and budding set department, and dozens of departments up and down the halls, happy little Christmas elves are busy all year long, making and trying out toys. Oh everybody is busy in Santa's toy shop. Santa Claus is busiest of all He shows the doll makers how to paint on smiles. "i'll take a day off soon," says Santa Claus, and play. But letters keep coming from boys and girls, wanting talking dolls and cowboy hoots, rocking horses and firemen suits. "i'm just too busy!" Santa Claus some times says. "i never have time to play with the toys and most of those children have been' so good, Santa has to do his best to please them." So the days whiz by in Santa's toy shop. Soon it was Christmas Eve again and Santa Claus has still not played with a single toy . "Oh, jumping jacks!" said Santa Claus last Christmas Eve, as Mrs. Claus buttoned up his warm red coat, "Now I have to give these toys awa\ and 1 never will get to try any .gut' Ile almost scowled But Mrs Claus whispered something into Santa's ear and he left the house chuckling to himself, "Wonderful idea!'the reindeer heard him say, as they waited at the door, hitched to the heaped up sleigh Then all night long around the world they flew. Santa dropped down chimneys with his load of toys, or slipped in doors or windows. where the chimney didn't fit. The load grew lighter in the sleigh as they went. At last Santa Claus was slipping down the chimney into the very last house on the list. There he found a Christmas tree all set up He put the final touches on it, and lit all the lights. He found a plate of cookies and a glass of milk, with a note that said, "For Dear Santa Claus '' So he'sat himself down and had a bite of lunch 'Then he unpacked the toys, as he always does. But he did not hustle right away Not this time, No! He set up the new train set and sent the electric engine speeding around the track and through the tunnel lie sent the model airplane spinning around the Christmas'tree. He built a whole village out of Christmas blocks. When Santa had tried every Christmas toy, back home he flew in his magical sleigh to Mrs. Santa Claus. "Never have i had such fun," Santa told Mrs. Santa Claus°"'I did as you suggested and stopped at the last home:" He whispered the children's name in her ear. Do you think he will pick your house to stop at this year? An end 'to all wars FOR THE WORLD BYMI('HAELHOVEN Grade? Seaforth Public School If i could give the world a present Christmas i would want to stop all wars and sin because I hate waking up in the morning and having to listen to the radio about all these wars and fights that is happening in for Iran, Iraq and Africa. HERE CoingS The tiger's claw brings Christmas Eve danger BY ADAM DAVIES It is a dark, lonely night on December 19, 1879, in England in a tavern in the darkened hours of the moors. A man stumbles in dressed in fur, carrying a musket in his left hand, He slumps into a bench in the far corner. In a short time the inn -keeper walks over to the man sitting quietly in the corner. The man grabs the inn -keeper by the collar and croaks, "listen I have never told anyone what i am going to tell you." "W hat?" replies the inn -keeper with eagerness. The man reaches into a pouch on his belt, and pulls out a Small object. The inn -keeper gazes at the other man's hand. The man grabs the inn -keeper's hand and places a tiger claw in his palm The inn•keeper's gaze is glued to the claw that lies in his grasp The other states "al the stroke of midnight hold up the claw and wish, but remember you have only one wish. "How can I trust you" replies the innkeeper doubt tv "Trust me," says the other man. "But mark my words, it will bring diaster," hitting the table with his fist. The man gets up and leaves as the innkeeper watches on. On December 24, 1879 at the stroke of midnight the inn -keeper raises the claw and wishes for wealth. The next day a knock comes to the door, "Yes". replies the inn -keeper. The messen- ger hands him a letter. The inn -keeper finds his son is dead, no cause given. He falls to his knees crying "Why Lord, why my son?" He ran upstairs and layed on his bed weeping loudly. Suddenly an image appeared and said "You were very greedy in asking for wealth. If you help your fellowman I will return your son. The inn -keeper did share his wealth.
