Institute honors
long-time member
Members of the Seaforth Women's Insti-
tute and their families enjoyed a pot luck
supper at their Christmas meeting December
10.
W inona Pipe was presented with a
W omen's institute life membership for her25
years as a member and work in the branches.
Marion Gordon gave a short address. Helen
McKenzie made the presentation. '
Humorous readings were given by Mildred
Kerr. Marion Gordon, Viola Lawson and
Helen McKenzie. A skit was given by Jean
and Jim Keys and Thelma Dale.
Members brought parcels for Christmas
giving and Christmas treats will be convened
by rho Sunshine Committee.
Euchre was enjoyed with winners being
men's high, Boas Gordon; lone hands, Harold
Coleman; low man, Lorne Lawson; ladies
high. Olive Dapple; .lone hands, Edith
McMillan; low, Helen McKenzie; birthday
closest to party, Gordon McKenzie; lucky
chair. Sarah Elliott.
OBITUARIES
('F..'ILA. BAXTER
('ecil,A. Baxter, of RR 2, Springfield died
Wednesday, December 11, 1985 at St.
Thomas Elgin General Hospital. He was 85.,
Mr. Baxter is survived by his wife, the
former Edna L. Campbell; sons Robert, of RR
2, Springfield, and William, of Lindsay and
daughters, Mrs. David (Marjorie) W ebber, of
Comox, British Columbia and Mrs, Albert
(Phyllis) Durst, of Whitehorse, Yukon.
Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren.
fie was predeceased by brothers William,
of London, George, Lawrence, Harvey, all of
Goderich, and sisters Mary Turton and Annie
Baxter, both of Goderich.
Mr. Baxter rested at the H.A. Kebbel
Funeral Home in Aylmer and a service was
held Saturday, December 14. Interment in
Aylmer Cemetery.
Donations to the charity of one's choice
would be appreciated as expressions of
sympathy.

For the December meeting of the Hibbert
United Church W omen, the opening devo-
tional period was led by Margaret Christie
and Verle Mahon, considering Christmas,
using music, dialogue, meditation and
prayer. Members also learned a new song.
Pastor Ernest Dow gave an account Of the
origin of many of our Christmas customs. and
highlighted tris talk by singing various types
-of carols.

baptized on Sunday at St. Joseph's Roman
Catholic Church, Clinton. Darren's sponsors.

the baptismal ceremony from St, Columban
were Joe and Helen Nolan, Dan and Rhonda
Nolan and family, Eugene Nolan and Barb
Meikle, Louise Nolan and Frank Flanagan,
Marg Nolan, Pam Nolan, Sherri Maloney and
Gary and Ann Cronin and Brent. Also
attending were Gerry and Gail Sararas and
family of Exeter, Dean and Donna Cornish of
London and the family of Mr. and Mrs. John
Janmaat of Seaforth.
The St. Columban Catholic Women's
League held their annual Christmas pot luck
supper and gift exchange in the school gym
speaker. members were served a lunch by
(;.wen Christie and flu Barker.
The business of the day. chaired by
Margaret Daynard. included a decision to
financially assist a possible delegate to 'roc
Alpha: to underwrite th(' purchase of new
decorations and to pay other hilts.
Arrangements were made for the ('tuns(•
mas birthday cake and for remembering the
sick and the shut-ins. A letter of thanks from
Optimism House was recieved.

College for the holiday season.

A short meeting was held. Flowers will be
given at Christmas to any shut-in members g
the C. W ,... Flowers will also be purchased for'
the altar and sanctuary of the church.
Two ladies who have left the parish during
the past year were presented with a mass
offering. They are Bernie Jordan, who has
moved to Mitchell, and Mary Helen Van
Loon, has moved to Dublin parish.
