Members of St. Andrew's United Church
Women enjoyed a traditional Christmas
dinner at their December 10 meeting.
Ruby Finlayson, accompanied at the piano
by Mary Broadfoot. led in a worship service of
traditional Christmas carols interspersed
with explanations of their origin and history.
Leslie Keays, for the topic, led the members
in a study of a number of more recent
Christmas hymns and the wording of these
which are significant for these times.
President June Cooper conducted the busi-
ness meeting and thanked the members for
their encouragement and support during the
past two years.

On Sunday, December 15 in St. Andrew's
Church the White Gift service was conducted
by the members of the Sunday School with
Jason Turner presiding over the service.
Under the guidance of organist Barbara
Cooper. the choir sang three anthems.
The offering was taken up by Brad De W ys
and Steven Johnson. Michelle Turner read
"The Magnificat of Mary." The Sunday
School presented a skit. The candle of
Proclamation was lit, Michael Jones, Melodie
Turner, Crystal 'Jones and Beverly Lefaive
were the four prophets.
Bulletin reminder of the Christmas Eve
Service at 7:30 p.m. in Brucefield Church.

• The sympathy of the community is
extended to Den and Yvonne Reynolds on the
death of Yvonne's mother Josephine Thomp-
son on Monday, December 9.
Hensall skating club receives present.

The Ilensall Figure Skating Club received
a St,Ooo donation from the Hensall Kinsmen
Club this past week The club has been very
supportive of the figure skaters over the
years Other supporters who gave the club
donations this season are: General Coach,
Legion ladies Auxiliary. 100F lodge and the
Re'bekahs
This is the second year in operation for the
figure skating club with increased member
ship from last year They have been busy with
different lundraising events this past year to
assist the club's financial status They hosted
a' fashion show in September.
The cheese sale fundraising event just
completed by the figure skating members
was a big boost. The top two winners were
('asst ;toil for first prize with total salcs of
5372 1(9 Second prize went to Leann Consitt
with total sales of $295 21

participants on Thursday at Hensall Com-

Rest wishes for a speedy recovery to Joe
McLellan who is presently in hospital
Tuesday, December to was dull and wet
but for 47 members of the Hensall and
('nen unnty Horticultural Society it was a
wonderful day Ellison Travel Agency put
them in a good bus, gave them a good driver,
Gary McFalls. and got them to Hamilton

Drysdale read a van interesting account of
the Inuit of Baffin Island as reported by John
Bennett. a Carleton University student who
had lived with the Inuit for several months on
a research project
A large quantity of baby clothing was
donated for a hale for Zaire Mother
Theresa's ('hnstmas message of 1983 was
read •1 social hour over lunch served by Jean
Wareing and Judy Parker was enjoyed,
SENIORS MEET
The Three Links Seniors met on December
11 and enjoyed a turkey :~upper prior to their
meeting.
Following supper the President Aldeen
Volland welcomed the 32 members and
guests present and opened the meeting.
The treasurer gave her report as did the
card convenor. The president then called on
qur guest Mary Broadfoot and Nelson Howe
who entertained with Christmas music and
several toe tapping numbers.
A few games of euchre filled out the
program Winners were ladies high. Evelyn
Flynn, men's high. Stewart Blackwell. lone
hands, Irene Finlayson, The next meeting
will he on January 14 at 2 p.m.

The third Advent candle at Carmel
Preshytenan Church on Sunday was lit by
Winnie Skea and Margaret Hoggarth gave
the story ry on loveOrgan and piano duets by
Carolyn Love and Dorothy Taylor featured a
medley of Christmas music Joanne Verlinde
played Christmas cards on her accordian
The Christmas service will he held Sunday
with special music for the occasion. Everyone
is reminded of the carol service which will be

Herb Shelton has returned home from
hospital, get well soon
BANTAMS ON SPREE
The Hensall Bantams went on a shooting
spree December 11 when they hosted and
defeated Mitchell 14.0
Rob Wareing recorded his first shut out of
the season as Mitchell were kept tied up and
only had a few shots on goal.
Jason Irpanse was top scorer for Hensall
with four goals and four assists followed by
Scott Bell who had four goals and two assists,
Rob Taylor marked up two goals and three
assists for his team. Brian Moir chalked up
two goals and one assist, with Jim Dickens
getting one goal and two assists. Wayne
Seolchmere recorded one of each with Rob
Vnlland and Andy Phillips both recording one
assist The boys will host Zurich on
Wednesday, December 18 at 8:30.

Doug and Karen and family of Tavistock
and Bruce and Janet of Strathroy visited with
their mother Mabel Shirray on Sunday.
Alma Horton has returned to hospital. We
wish her a speedy recovery

presentation of "Tile Messiah" at Trinity
United Church in Listowel on Friday evening

Queensway catches holiday spirit

Queensway certainly has This past week
everyone has been busy preparing for the big
family ('hnstmas party decorating the
halls. baking in the kitchen. and the choir
practising their carols Everyone had a job to
dDespite all the work residents had time to
enjoy a church service with Rev. Hawley on
Tuesday. December 10 Rev. Hawley's
volunteers were Alice McLean. Carfrey Cann
and Audrey McGregor Bob Cameron was the
pianost Everyone agreed it was a lovely
service On Friday. December 13 the Hensall
Public School choir, grades one and two, five
and six children came and sang Residents
were presented with candles made for them
by the children

was just as wonderful as all had hoped it
