After quite a number of years the old
Seaforth PublicSchool reopened its doors last
week, but not as a schoolhouse. Prom now on
it will be referred to as Maplewood Manor. a
rest home for the area's senior citizens.
Purchased initially by Dedi Care Group
Inc., of Brantford. in February, the old
schoolhouse is now owned by El(riede
Sohuttka of St. Catharines. Mrs. Sobottka is a
shareholder with the Dedi-Care Group but
said she decided to buy Maplewood Manor
outright because she liked the structure and
its setting.
She and her 10 -year partner, (ass Joudrey.

rest homes throughout Canada and the
tinned Slates. They currently operate Mill-
wood Manor in Kitchener.
"We're not investors in buying and
selling We're operators and that's differ -

both private and semi• private;rccommoda-
tions. Each suite is fully furnished in the
traditional style and includes carpeting and
draperies. Residents have the option to
decorate their suite with their own furnish•

ly decorated lounges and sitting areas
throughout the home for entertaining guests
or whatever
Although some of the outside landscaping
is vet unfinished, Mrs Sobottka said a
number of patios will he constructed,
including one outside the dining area, so
residents can lake their meals outside during
the good weather
" I'nlortunately we had a two- month delay.
Hari wr been on schedule. we'd have half the
facility filled already Now people want to
wait until after the holidays. We're ready,
when they're ready." said Mrs. Sobottka.

pleased with the way the old schoolhouse has
shaped itself into a rest home.
"It's very nice. I think it's the right size, it
has a homey atmosphere and Seaforth is a
nice little town: I believe it is a unique facility
for this area, and I hope the town profits from
it, and that no one has to go out of town."
"W e like to stay away from the institution-
al atmosphere and I think we've done that in
Seaforth."
Those associated with the Maplewci4d
Manor report a good community response to
the conversion project Over 300 people took
advantage of a four•day open hpuse last
week, and because of the interedt officials
have decided to offer public tours of the new
facility every Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. for
the next month or so No appointment is
needed for the tours
The Manor will also continue to offer a 25
per cent reduction in the first month's rate,
for anyone who makes the move before
