Majestic women hold euchre

The Majestic Women's Institute of Brus-
sels hosted a euchre party, on Tuesday
evening December 3 with eight tables
playing. Mrs. Peggy Cudmore welcomed
everyone. .
The following were the winners in cards:
high lady, Kate Wilson; low lady, Leona
Connelly; high man, Marguerite Sanderson;
low man, Jane De Vries; travelling lone hand
prize, Marguerite Sanderson; most lone
hands, Kathy Bridge; lucky cup, Jeanne
Ireland; ladies birthday nearest Christmas,
Leona Connelly; man's birthday nearest
Christmas, John Simpson.
NURSING HOMENEW S
The Callander Nursing Home welcomes
Mrs. Yvonne Struke. Mrs. Struke is the new
Director of Nurses. She comes from Hanover,
where she was employed as head nurse in the
chronic unit of Hanover hospital.
On November 24, children from the
Brussels • Mennonite Sunday School sang
hymns in the morning and afternoon. Mr.
Donald Dunbar entertained at the piano after
which the Mennonite choir from the Ethel
and Zion Churches performed.
Monday was bingo day under the leader-
ship of Debbie Trollope with Bill Close
winning the trophy again and Bessie
McCutcheon a close second.
Euchre was enjoyed on Tuesday with the
residents participating.
Sympathy was extended to Mrs. Adeline
Smith on the passing of her sister, Mrs. Sally
Orwell.
Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Hayward visited with
their grandmother, Mrs. Stella Winn.
Thursday morning exercises and other
activities took place and a film about
Christmas was shown in the afternoon. Mr.
Jack Stewart from Oshawa, visited with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Stewart.
Friday morning saw Anne Smith at the
piano and the discussion group, led by Karen
Cardiff, Jean Evans and Jeannette Boynton,
talked with residents in the afternoon. /
In the evening the monthly Mennonite
Fellowship Service was held with rs y
Margaret McLeod reading the scripture.
UCW MEE'T'ING
The afternoon unit of Brussels United
Church Women met in the church parlor on
December 3 with President Dorothy Steffler
opening the meeting with a Christmas
greeting. During the meeting, selected carols
were sung with Mary Bryans at the piano.
The Christmas Story was read by Ruth
Huepfer.
Mrs. Betty Graber sang two lovely solos "I
Wonder as I W ander" and "I Heard the Bells
of Christmas Day." A Christmas poem was
given by Edna Pearson and a reading "A
Pattern for living," followed by prayer given
by Mrs. Steffler.
In the business, the treasurer reported that
money was given to the church board and
sponsorship for six young people to go to Toc
Alpha in Toronto during Christmas holidays.
The Christmas potluck lunch followed the
White Gift Service on December 8. The boxes
for shut-ins were packed on December 5.
Thirteen members and two visitors an-
swered the roll call with a Christmas thought
and the collection was taken.
Mrs. Anne Smith read a Christmas story.
The nominating committee gave their report
and the meeting closed with a parting verse
by the president. Mrs. Anne Smith and Mrs.
Ida Evans served lunch.
BINGO HELD
The Royal Canadian. Legion of Brussels
held their second turkey bingo on Friday
evening, December 6.
The following were winners of 14 regular

UNITED CHURCH NEW S
The 1985 White Gift Service was conducted
by the children of the Brussels United Church
School on Sunday, December 8.
The carol "Come, Thou Long Expected
Jesus" was sung followed by the Grades 3
and 4 Sunday School Class presenting the
Advent Wreath.
The senior choir sang a song as did the
Nursery and Primary Sunday School classes.
The Senior Sunday School class sang "Mary
Hada Baby" and the carol "On a Day W hen
Men Were Counted" was also sung.
The story presentation was "Only a
Stable."
The presentation of White Gifts took place.
Mrs. Bonnie Jacklin performed a solo.
Following the service, the congregation
had a potluck lunch and Christmas treats
were distributed to the children.
PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH NEWS
A large crowd was present for the Sunday
morning Communion service at Melville
Presbyterian Church. The choir sang two
anthems, "The little Road to Bethlehem"
with Mrs. Marie Douglas taking the solo part
and "Sing Gloria" with Mrs. Douglas and
Mrs. Margaret McLeod singing a duet. The
male chorus also took their part.
Rev. Jamieson's sermon was "God Comes
In Jesus Christ to Strengthen Us In Love,. Joy
and Truth." Prayers were said for the sick
and shut-ins.
The congregation is invited to St. Andrew's
Presbyterian Church, Wingham on Sunday,
December 15 at 7:30 p.m. for their Cantata
"Bois A King."
Morris council
hold inauguration
The inaugural meeting of the Morris
Township Council was held on December 3 at
the municipal office and council chambers.
The incoming Reeve Doug Fraser called the
meeting to order.
The Declaration of Office and the Oath of
Allegiance was administered to the follow-
ing: Douglas Fraser, reeve; Clement McLel-
Ian, Deputy Reeve; Robert Grasby, Howard
Morton and Robert Elliott, councillors. The
above mentioned being the Council for the
Township of Morris for a three year term,
December, 1985 to November 30, 1988,
inclusive.
Pastor Bonnie Lamble from the Walton•
Bluevale United Churches, was in attendance
for the inaugural session and addressed the
new council with guidance and invocation.
Ms. Lamble wished the council a successful
three year term.
Reeve Doug Fraser welcomed the new
council and said he hoped the council could
work as a team for the term of council.
Reeve Fraser asked all members in
attendance if any member wished to declare a
pecuniary interest. No declaration was made
at this time.
The council discussed the time and dates
for the regular meetings of council for the
