This year, Canada Post expects to handle letters from more than 50 thousand girls and boys (and a few adults) in the area on behalf of the Ally old fellow. Canada Post has helped Santa answer more than one and a half million letters since the Santa Letter Program was inaugurated on a cross-country basis in 1982. The program was meant to enhance local, individual efforts that had been going on for years, and to give children in many parts of the country an opportunity to get a letter from St. Nick for the first time. Toward that end, replies have been prepared in several languages (in addition to English and French) including Polish, Portuguese, Viet- namese, Dutch and Chinese. When postal officials learned that several children FIX IT FAST! r Huron rAxposltor BUSINESS DIRECTORY! attending a school for the blind in Brantford had written to Santa, replies were prepared and sent back in braille. For the most part, letters to Santa are culled from the mail stream, although several post offices have set up a box especially for Santa's mail in the lobby. In 18 cities and towns in Huron Division, letter carriers marching in local Santa Claus parades are collecting thousands of letters from the small fry along the parade route. For their part, children wishing to write to St. Nick are asked to be sure to include a return address (and postal code) and to be sure to get their letters in no later than December 13 (to ensure Santa's reply gets back to them before December 25). Santa's address is: Santa Clause North Pole, Canada, HOH OHO For more information, contact your local postmaster, or call: Richard Bowness, Media Relations - Santa Program Coordinator, Huron Division (London), (519) 679-5050 ext. 206. 527-0240 OBITUARIES FRANK W ESTFIELD RILEY Frank Westfield Riley, formerly of Kin - burn, died at Seaforth Community Hospital Monday, December 2, 1985.
