The Sunday School of Knox Church are
holding their Christmas Concert in the church
on Sunday evening, December 8.
Come and enjoy the evening with the
children. Everyone welcome.
Miss Nancy Jean Craig, Toronto, spent the
November 23rd weekend with Mr. and Mrs.
Jack Conley and relatives in the area.
Mr. and Mrs, Angus Starr, Alliston, spent
the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Don Cotton.
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Smith and family were
in Harriston on Thursday November 28
celebrating the 90th birthday of Mrs.
Dadswell, Beryl's mother.
There were eleven tables playing on Friday
night when the Forester's had their first
euchre of the season. High scores • Mrs. W m.
Beirnes, Jim Minielly, low, Jack and Jean
Conley; lucky numbers, Ruth Martin,
Eleanor Stevenson, Morris Honeyford; lucky
score cards, Helen Alexander, Joe Martin,
Bill Craig, Linda Minielly; lucky table no, 7,
Earl and Lenora Mills, Bill and Marguerite
Beirnes.
The Foresters are not having any euchres
until later in the New Year.
The Hall Board are sponsoring one on
Friday evening, December 6.

A large crowd attended the Belgrave
Kinsmen Annual Turkey Bingo which was
held in the W omen's Institute Hall on Friday.
W inners of the turkey bingo were: George
Johnston, Irene Lamont, Karen Casemore,
Heather Hopper, Harvey Black, Donna
Shaw, Hilda Vincent, Ann McKercher,
Wanda Curtis and Trevor Jamieson. Share
the Wealth winners were John McKercher
and Crystal Black.
Door prizes were won by; Kim Edgar,
Clarence Hanna and Albert Cook.
EUCHRE PIA YED
Twelve tables were in play at the weekly
euchre held in the W omen's Institute Hall
Wednesday, November 27.
The winners were: high lady, Jean
Pattison. novelty lady, Mrs. Lorne Jamieson;
' low lady, Mrs, Edgar Wightman; high man,
William Black; novelty man, Lawrence Taylor
and low man, George Drehmann.
There will be euchre again this Wednesday
starting at 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
PEOPLE
Dorothy Higgins has now taken up
residence in the Callander Nursing Home,
Brussels.
Mr. and Mrs. Vince Makes and Alicia of
9London spent the weekend with Mr. and
Mrs. Kenneth Wheeler.
Mrs. Gerald Watson of Forest spent a'few
days last week with her sister-in•law Mrs.
Roy Pattison,
• Ten Belgrave residents enjoyed a two day
trip on the Leisure Bus of Hanover to the
W inter Festival of Lights at Niagara.
They also attended the Eddy Arnold and
Pacific Pearl Show.
Morris council meets for turkey

Approximately 40 representatives of the
different area boards and Morris Township
Council and their spouses sat down to a hot
turkey dinner at the Wingham Golf and
('ountry Club on Tuesday, November26. Mr.
and Mrs. Bill Elston hosted the annual
Christmas party. Following supper and a
word from each one of the council members,
euchre was played The lucky winners were:
high lady, Jane Grasby; low lady, Sue
Gowing; high man, Clem McLellan; low man,
Howard Morton; lone hands for men was Jack
Cardiff; lone hands for lady went to Alice
Searle Coffee and Christmas goodies
brought an enjoyable evening to a close.
4-H ACHIEVEMENT

and Grey Community Centre was another
Huron County 4-11 Achievement Night. Jane
Muegge. the Rural Organization Specialist.
was present to welcome everyone. There
were 17 clubs laking part.
When the members registered they were
divided into lbree groups. Each group did an
El iquet te Quiz, judged tea biscuits and also a
class of exhibits
The awards presentation was held with the

The new member award went to Glenda
Carter, Walton 1, and the five year Leader

The upcoming projects for 1986 are
Etiquette for the '80s, Quest for Success,
Seed to Shelf and Milk Makes it. Any young
people aged 12 to 21 can join by calling the
OMAF office.
NURSING HOME NEWS
The Callender Nursing Home in Brussels
has two new ladies. They are Marion
Letherland and Dorothy Higgins.
Rev. Bonnie Lamble from Walton United
Church conducted the weekly service on
Sunday. November 17. Monday afternoon
bingo was played with Bill Close holding the
monthly trophy. The Salvation Army's
representatives Mr. and Mrs Doug Purdy
paid their weekly visit Tuesday the Blyth
Singers sang their hymns and visited with the
residents. Wednesday evening Fred Thuell.
Donald Dunbar and Howard Smith entertain•
ed with their Old Time Music Ann Smith
played hymns Thursday morning and Gord
Harrison's Band from Godench entertained
with favorites in the afternoon
Lillian Cox celebrated her 87th birthday on
Friday, November 22 The discussion group,
led by volunteers Karen Cardiff and Jeanette
Baynton. chatted with the residents over tea
and cookies
The Nursing Home as always welcome all
visitors to the home
During this Christmas season they are
participating in the Christmas Wish Draw, so
each time you visit remember to fill nut your
ticket• you could be a winner

CHRISTMAS PARTY HEW
The Brussels Moms and Grey Communes
Centre came alive last Saturday night when
approximately 500 were served a delicious
supper. The occasion was the B.M. and G.
Recreation department's annual Christmas
family night. Following supper, draws were
made for several prizes with Mr and Mrs.
Clifford Stevens in charge Dancing was held
for the children with the parents and
grandparents joining in Later Santa Claus
arrived and presented the children with a
candy cane Earlier in the day a parade was
held with Santa arriving in town and the many
children received a hag of candy and were
treated to a movie

The Advent 1 church service was held at
Brussels United Church on Sunday morning
with Rev Charles Carpentier officiating The
choir had an anthem presentation Rev
Carpentier'•: sermon was "What Do You
Expect From God ^" Prayers were said for the
following, Susie Morton. Nettie Bartley and
Elvin McWhirter who are in Wingham
hospital and Harold Wallace also an W Ing-
ham. Clarence Clarke and George Pearson
who are in the l.istowel Hospital
The Sunday School children and staff have
chosen to share with the congregation an
"Advent Wreath "
December4 at 6 30 p m the United Church
Women Christmas potluck dinner will be held
in the auditorium of the church Guest
speaker will be pastor Doug Zehr. and the
"Whitmore Family' Marg will hung us her
message in song and her children. Brent and
Melissa are bringing their violins
The members of the L' t' 14' will be
packing Christmas boxes for the elderly
shut-ins of the congregation on December 5
at 1 p m in the church parlor Donations of
fruit. cookies etc will he greatly appreciated

Dog encounters rabid skunk

Rabies' last week a dog here was
destroyed after ,an encounter with a rabid
skunk There have been other skunks caught
in the same vicinity of Brussels and a rabid
one outside the village limits If owners of
dogs allow them to ran loose they may be
attacked by a rabid animal Such people show
little concern for their pet. it also endangers
those of others who try to protect them from
rabies by keeping them confined to their own
premises Even then they should he watched.

number of attractive floats from business

twirling batons to the music of the trumpets,
pipes and drams of Seaforth Girls High
School Band and Brussels legion Band
Those young performers were, it was plain to
he seen, proud to he perinrrrong in Santa's
parade A fine parade well worth watching
To top it off there Santa was on his way to
distribute candies to the children and an hour
of cartoons to be enjoyed al the Legion Hall.
Thanks is due to the sponsors of the parade
and to those who participated to make it a
successful event
N hat shocking things happen to teenagers
these days Why would a 1a year-old girl,
disturbed by the cooling of a romance and the
knowledge that her ex-boyfriend was dating
another girl. plan to kill him. telling others of
her intention She took a rifle from home,
loaded it. got a ride to the school. shot her
ex boyfriend and his friend who tried to
intervene. The girl fled but returned hours
later W hen officers were about to disarm her
she put the gun to her head and pulled the
trigger The ex-boyfriend died in the
schoolyard, his friend and the girl herself
later in hospital This tragedy was not one
that occurred at the spur of a hot angered
moment It was planned and carried out, with
deliberate intent. by a girl who after all was a
youngster What made her do it' What kind
of homelife did she have' Was them a lack of
warm parental love and understanding that
made her cling so desperately to a boyfriend
for the affection she needed^
