Last weekend Legion members attended the Fall District Convention held in Owen Sound and hosted by the Royal Canadian Legion of that city. Over 400 members and their wives were in attendance. Some of the highlights of the convention were; there will be no increase in per capita fees for at least another year, public speaking contests will be held in Mount Forest on April 6 for the District and the Area and Provincial on April 20 and May 3; applications for the War Veterans Allowance program will be changed as of November 1 this year. -Service officers will be attending a seminar later on in Sarnia to deal with the changes taking place; a membership semi- nar was also held on Saturday afternoon for branch chairmen and anyone else who cared to attend. It was pointed out that 60 years ago only 3,000 veterans were members of the Legion. Today there are upwards of a LEGION NEWS half million members over the whole of Canada. That number is still growing. Emphasis was placed on the early bird campaign once again and owing to the fact it is the Legion "Diamond Jubilee Year" the Seaforth branch is offering special prizes for renewing memberships in October, Novem- ber and December. The Membership Committee would like to win another plaque for the Branch for 1986 and urges members to try and renew by January 1. The Spring Convention will be held in Hanover on April 19 and 20. Chairmen Bill Wilbee and George Case report the Tulip Campaign was a huge Pee Wees lose opener Seaforth Pee Wees travelled to Palmer- ston last Sunday for their first game of the season but came home the losers by a score of 8-3. At the end of the second period, Palmerston led 4-1. Paul McElwain started the scoring off for Seaforth in the second period on a goal assisted by Karsten Carroll and Ted Sills. In the third period Palmerston scored four goals to Seaforth's two. Seaforth's two third period goals were scored by Paul McElwain unassisted and Jason Horan assisted by Paul McUwain. Seaforth's first home game is 7 p.m. Saturday against Arthur. To the pleople who have contributed by buying tulips to make the campaign such a success the legion can only say "thank you." On Sunday, the legion is holding its annual Poppy Drive. Comrade Gordon Beuttenrniller would like the canvassers to be at the Legion at 1:30 p.m. The more canvassers there are the easier and quicker the job will be done. "Many hands make light work."
