Uplifting service at United Church
Hensall Correspondent
BERTHA MacGREGOR
262-2025
"Wonderful," 'Tremendous," "Inspir-
ing," "Uplifting" were some of the words
used in conversation to try and describe the
service at the United Church on Sunday
morning. Don Smith of the Christian Blind
Mission spoke on the story of The Good
Samaritan relating it to the work of the Blind
Mission throughout the world. Don, who was
a business man, went blind seven years ago
and after many months of discouragement
was led by God to serve in the Blind'Mission.
The warmth of his personality and the
strength of his faith held the congregation
spellbound. He also spoke to the children
about how many of the children in other
countries go blind because of lack of proper
food.
The service was conducted by the
Reverend McDonald with Belva Fuss at the
organ. The choir led the congregation in the
Ministry of Music. Betty Simmons greeted
the congregation and the ushers were
Wilmer Ferguson, Bill Fuss, Hans Gersten-
korn and Harold Parsons.
The flowers at the front of the church were
placed in loving memory of Vera Brintnell by
Jack, Mary and family and in loving memory
of Robert McGregor by Babe and the family.
The congregation were reminded there are
just a few mote places left on the Centennial
quilt for names of the congregation and that
these should be in this week. The cost is 25
cents per name.
Sunday evening saw Don and Barbara
Smith of the Christian Blind Mission leading
the Fbllowship Service at the United Church
The congregation which included visitors
from as far as Listowel, heard Barbara speak
of the work of the Mission and then Don
showed slides of the mission work at Haiti.
